The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) announced today it has awarded the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) a $10 million housing support program grant to provide assistance and services to low-income, eligible Kansas families at risk of or experiencing homelessness in all 105 counties across the state.

With just 10 days remaining before the SUPER BOWL between the Patriots and the Seahawks, Fresh Start is inviting generous donors to help fill our clients’ breakfast bowls with cereals, oatmeal and grits. And, as we’ve expanded to a Night Shelter Program, we are also seeking contributions for soups and chilis to accommodate more meals and more guests. As we have started our Night Shelter Program, we are finding that we are in need of additional "hands on deck". Do you have some time in the evening during dinner, 5:30-9:30pm? Or two hours in the morning, 6:00-8:00am to help out? Evening tasks include assisting with serving dinner once the clients come in, and helping to monitor as they come and go. Morning tasks include putting out breakfast items for clients to make on their own breakfast, and assist staff with monitoring clients coming and going. If you are interested in helping, please message us. We do have a volunteer application and we do background checks on our volunteers for the safety of everyone. Thank you in advance!

We will also have the Warming Center on Monday night because of the night temps in the teens. Doors will open at 4pm when we are usually serving the meal to-go for day services. Check out will be on Tuesday at 9:00am. Same rules apply as posted before. 136 W 3rd St., JC.

This Sunday, December 28, Fresh Start will be having a Warming Center for one night starting at 6:00pm through Monday morning, 9:00am. Dinner and breakfast will be provided. Temps will be below 20 degrees with windy conditions. If you come after 9:00pm, please have our local law enforcement es**rt you to the door for your safety and the safety of guests and staff. 136 W 3rd Street, Junction City, KS.

With the winds picking up tomorrow, Thursday, December 18, Fresh Start will be having a Warming Center for one night only. Check in between 4:00pm-9:00pm. Check out will be at 9:00am on Friday. For more information, contact 785-390-0102.
