Because of your support, we welcomed over 150 community members who had the opportunity to learn valuable safety information, ask questions, and connect with local resources.

We are so grateful for each of you and for your continued partnership in helping keep the children and families of our community safe. We couldn’t have done it without you!

πŸ›Ÿ Life Jacket Loaner Station Now Available! πŸ›Ÿ

We are excited to partner with the Junction City Family YMCA to provide a Life Jacket Loaner Station for our community!

This resource was made possible through our Safe Kids Geary County program, helping families have access to properly fitted life jackets to stay safe while enjoying time around the water.

Whether you’re heading to the lake, pool, or another water adventure, having the right life jacket is an important step in preventing water-related injuries and keeping our kids safe.

A special thank you to the Junction City YMCA for partnering with us and helping make water safety resources available to families in our community. πŸ’™

πŸ›Ÿ Remember: Life jackets save lives β€” wear one every time you’re around the water!

Cyclospora Outbreak Update

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections. As of July 14, 2026, there have been 1,645 laboratory-confirmed cases nationwide, including 22 confirmed cases in Kansas.

Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Symptoms typically begin about one week after eating contaminated food, but they can appear anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks after exposure.
At this time, investigators believe the outbreak is likely linked to fresh produce, but no specific food or supplier has been identified.

You can reduce your risk by:

β€’ Washing your hands with soap and water before preparing or eating food.

β€’ Rinsing fresh fruits and vegetables under running water.

β€’ Keeping washed produce separate from raw meat and other raw foods.

If you experience diarrhea lasting more than a few days, severe dehydration, or other concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

Please remember that fresh fruits and vegetables remain an important part of a healthy diet. The health benefits continue to outweigh the current risk. Public health officials recommend thoroughly washing produce rather than avoiding it.

See our flyer below for more information, and visit the CDC for the latest updates.

We had a great time connecting with families at Family Fun n’ Fit Day this morning!

One of the many ways public health supports our community is through injury prevention and education. We were excited to distribute all 70 bicycle helmets and share resources to help keep local children and families safe and healthy.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit with us! πŸ’™πŸš΄

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the Safe Kids Geary County Bike Rodeo! We had a wonderful time helping kids get properly fitted helmets, performing basic bike maintenance, learning important bike safety skills, and putting those skills to the test on our rodeo course.

While our event was unfortunately cut short by about an hour due to the rain, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who braved the weather and joined us. We loved having the opportunity to serve the families who came out and make bike safety both fun and educational.

Participants also enjoyed a refreshing lemonade from IHOP, and we're so grateful for their support in providing this fun treat for our riders!

This event would not have been possible without the incredible volunteers and community partners who came together to make it happen. Your time, dedication, and support helped create a positive experience for local families. A special thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success.

Thank you for helping us promote bike safety in our community. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year! πŸš²πŸ’™

Summer is here, and that means pool time! β˜€οΈπŸ’¦

Safe Kids Geary County reminds families that pool chemical safety is just as important as water safety. Always store chemicals out of reach of children, never mix products, and follow label directions carefully to avoid burns, breathing issues, or dangerous reactions.

Taking a few extra precautions helps keep your pool a fun and safe place all summer long! πŸ–οΈπŸ’™

Getting the pool ready for summer? Pool chemicals keep the water clean, but they can be dangerous if mixed or handled incorrectly. Stay safe and :
βœ… Follow all label directions
βœ… Use proper safety gear
βœ… Store chemicals in original containers, away from kids and pets
