The Dorothy Bramlage Public Library (DBPL) is currently in the design and beginning fundraising phases to build a new public library. A Makerspace is incorporated in the new library plan, with the intent to provide the Junction City community with a space that will inspire collaboration, innovation, and build hands-on skills. It is also a desire that the Makerspace will be a resource for the members of the 4-H and FFA communities, and that it would be a place where members could have access to equipment and tools that may otherwise be unavailable to them.
Former Geary County resident Michelle Munson and her husband/business partner, Serban Simu, have made a generous donation to the DBPL Foundation to facilitate an internship project this summer to explore the Makerspace concept for our community. DBPL is contracting with the Kansas State University Technology Development Institute who has hired and will mentor the summer intern. Ryan Broeder, a native of Great Bend Kansas, 14-year 4-H member, and upcoming Senior in Mechanical Engineering, has been hired for the internship.
