June Lake Library

June Lake Library The first June Lake Library was actually operated by Inyo County, from 1960-1965. An addition was built especially for the library in the late 1980's.

The Mono County branch was established in 1971, after the Community Center

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - CALL AHEAD FOR PICKUP SERVICE BEGINS TUESDAY, MAY 26TH !!!

Starting Tuesday, May 26th at most Mono County Library locations, you can pick up library materials by prearranging with your local library staff for pick up. Locations starting this service include Coleville, Bridgeport, June Lake, Benton, Mammoth Lakes and Crowley Lake. Lee Vining will join on or before June 1st.

Go to www.monocolibraries.org for specific details for how the "Call Ahead" service will work. Basically you can use your Mono County Library Card to go to our online catalog - in the Quick Links section to the right - to place a hold on an item, or you can contact your local library staff by phone or email during regular hours. Contact information for your location can be found in the BRANCHES menu above. Your local staff member will confirm with you by phone or email the expected date/time for you to pick up your item(s), check them out ahead of time, and arrange them for you to pick up at the library's entrance through a safe contactless handoff. When you're done with the item(s), simply return it in the library's exterior book drop to maintain the contactless handoff and we will clean and quarantine the time for 4 days before reshelving it. We will continue to waive overdue fines during this period.

There is a brief video tutorial for using the online catalog to search and place a hold on a title on the monocolibraries.org website.

We look forward to seeing you in person again and thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new service. We are also working toward readying a modified 'inside service' once again when California moves into Phase 3 of reopening. Stay tuned!

Here's my next selection. This is a novel about parents raising a transgender child but it reads like a memoir. The obstacles and challenges they face as a family navigating their child's gender feels so right on. They grapple with the issues that we can all imagine surfacing in this situation. The characters are mostly lovable and believable. I recommend this engaging read that takes an honest look at gender and culture.

Read with your local librarian. I just finished this book The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. If you want to fall into an author's dream this book is for you. This book takes you on a journey to an underground library where you will meet and interact with Time and Fate in a delightful way. Although I rarely read fantasy books I have thoroughly enjoyed both of this author's books. Her first book, Night Circus, is all about a magical circus. Both are worth a read. Come check both of them out at the June Lake Library and let's discuss:)
