The Craig & Thorne Bay District Ranger closed Forest Service Road 2050400 (Ridge Road) at milepost 1.17 to the end of the road, and all roads connected beyond, to motorized travel through Sept. 30.

This closure is for public safety. An engineering technician inspected the road around a culvert crossing and identified structural deficiencies that warranted immediate closure. If repaired to standard prior to the end of the closure order, the road will be re-opened.

For more information, contact the Craig & Thorne Bay Ranger District at 907-828-3304.

“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

As if a portal had been opened between our universe and another, rays of neon light pour down from above, lit by guiding galactic stars. All that lays between Sitka, the Tongass National Forest and the unknown are tree tops who themselves reach towards the stars. USDA Forest Service photo by Chris Doupnik.

More good news! ❄️

Snow machining is now open in the Snug Harbor access to Lost Lake! Just like with last time, all areas lined in red (see map) remain closed to snow machine operations.
