Announcement & Public Open House
Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (MGVC) Kootéeyaa Project
The Tongass National Forest, Juneau Ranger District is proposing to install up to five wooden totems at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center in Juneau, Alaska to represent the present-day and history of the native culture of the region. The poles would be carved by local tribal artists and represent several Tlingit and Haida clans.
Totems would be up to 50 feet tall with concrete footings up to 6 feet in diameter. They would be raised in previously developed locations, so soil disturbance and vegetation removal would be minimal.
More information on this proposal can be found on the project webiste: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=67491

Date and Time: Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 3 to 6 pm
Location: Juneau Ranger District, 8510 Mendenhall Loop Rd, Juneau, AK 99801
