Cracking a window does not prevent rapid heat buildup. Children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle.

With hotter temperatures, NEVER leave kids or pets in a car!‼️

Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside can be deadly in minutes.

👉 Place something in the backseat, such as a phone or purse, to remind you a child or pet is in the car.

On this Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their bravery and sacrifice made the freedoms we enjoy possible.

As you enjoy the day with friends and family, remember to celebrate thoughtfully and safely. Watch out for each other on the roads, around water, and at gatherings. Honoring their memory means keeping each other safe, too.

Thank you to Beaver Dam Fire Department for hosting both ICS 300 and ICS 400 this year. Trainings like these are critical to strengthening our local response capabilities and ensuring agencies can work together effectively during complex incidents.

The Incident Command System provides a standardized framework that helps emergency responders, public safety agencies, government officials, and partner organizations coordinate during emergencies and large scale events. Continued education and advanced training help build stronger leadership, improve communication, and enhance decision making under pressure.

It was great to see a diverse group of participants from multiple disciplines and communities come together to further their knowledge and collaborate with one another. Opportunities like this help build relationships before emergencies happen, which is essential for successful incident management.

Thank you again to the Beaver Dam Fire Department and the City of Beaver Dam for taking the initiative to host these important trainings and invest in regional preparedness.

🚒 Training Together for You 🚓

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is hosting an ICS 400 course with area fire, law enforcement partners, and members of the City of Beaver Dam leadership team. This advanced training strengthens coordination and leadership for large-scale incidents—helping ensure we’re ready when our community needs us most.

In Dodge County, our EMTs, paramedics, and first responders serve on the front lines of medical emergencies every day. They demonstrate strong teamwork and a clear commitment to service in some of the most challenging and time sensitive situations our communities face.

EMS professionals bridge the gap between crisis and definitive care. They operate in high pressure environments, make time critical decisions, and deliver lifesaving interventions when minutes matter most. Their training, experience, and composure directly impact patient outcomes and overall community safety.

May 17 to 23, 2026 is National EMS Week. This week, we recognize and thank these professionals for the essential work they perform each day on behalf of our communities.

What is in your junk drawer?

Be honest, go open it right now.

Now, do you have
▪️A flashlight that works
▪️Batteries that aren’t dead
▪️A lighter or matches
▪️Multi-tool or screwdriver
▪️Duct tape

Do you realize you already have the start of an emergency preparedness kit?

What you just saw in that junk drawer is only part of it. Now think about other useful items you have around your house that could also be used in an emergency and added to this list.

You don’t need to go out and buy a bunch of gear. Start with what you already have and put it together in one place. When something unexpected happens, you may not have time to dig through the house looking for it.

Preparedness doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to make sense.
