This week the Federal Trade Commission released the 2022 Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book. It reports that Alaskans reported 4,409 scams to the Federal Trade Commission in 2022. Total losses were $16.7 million dollars with a median loss of $950. Half of victims lost less than $950 and the other half lost more.

The top scam reported by Alaskans was Imposter Scams with 1,551 reports. Online Shopping and Negative Reviews took second place with 575 reports.The Data Book includes profiles for the other 49 states and summarizes activity for the nation as a whole.

This Youth Film Workshop in Juneau is open for applications! Sponsored by the Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archive, & Museum, this documentary film intensive is open to 7th-12th grade students to create a mini-documentary on a cannery or fishing related story of their choice. The Internet Archive is 25 years old! You may be familiar with their Wayback Machine, a tool for discovering information from websites that have either changed or no longer exist. Did you know, though, that they make the tools developed for this work available through Archive-It? Here at the Alaska State Library, we use Archive-It to capture, preserve, and provide access to Alaska state government websites, as well as a small amount of federal web content related to Alaska.
