Did you know that many survivors delay leaving abusive situations because they fear for their pets' safety?

Research shows abusers often have a pattern of violence toward all household members—including pets. Many survivors stay with an abuser because they worry the abuse will escalate if their animals are left behind, or they can't find shelter that accepts pets.

Being means ensuring they don't have to choose between their own safety and that of their pets. RedRover offers resources to help survivors and their pets find safety together, including grants for pet boarding and support for pet-friendly domestic violence shelters.

Abuse isn't just physical, emotional, or financial. For American Indians and Alaska Natives, cultural and spiritual abuse is a very real form of domestic violence.

Cultural abuse can include:
-Belittling your beliefs, practices, and traditions
-Preventing you from participating in ceremonies, pow wows, or feasts
-Telling you that you're not "Native enough" or "too Indian"
-Using hurtful stereotypes to put you down
-Preventing you from drumming, dancing, singing, or participating in traditions
-Using tribal membership against you

Being means recognizing all forms of abuse, including cultural abuse. You have the inherent right to be safe, to lead a life free of abuse, and to participate in your cultural practices and traditions.
