Good morning, Southeast Alaska! As can be seen on the satellite loop, the front that had been impacting the Panhandle over the weekend is pushing out of the Panhandle today, & a flattened ridge of high pressure is building-in behind it. This will bring decreasing rain chances & decreasing clouds, but the overall onshore-flow will keep isolated to scattered rain showers & mostly cloudy skies through early week. As the week progresses, it will dry & warm more, & clouds will further decrease as the ridge of high pressure amplifies & warmer air advects toward the region. For late Thursday night into Friday, a weak trough of low pressure approaches, bringing chances for light rain showers to the Panhandle. Then, the clouds will resume decreasing, things will dry-out more, & temperatures will further warm through the weekend.

Good morning, Southeast Alaska! A frontal system with an associated atmospheric river that has been pushing northward through the eastern Gulf of Alaska, is pushing through the Yakutat area, bringing some more intense rainfall & some gustier winds through this morning. This will push eastward while precipitously weakening, spreading rainfall at lesser intensity to the rest of the Panhandle through Monday. After that, A ridge of high pressure builds-in over the eastern gulf & Panhandle, bringing drier, warmer, more benign weather conditions with lighter winds through next week.

Good evening, Southeast Alaska!

Following today's rainfall, a secondary system in the Gulf as seen on this satellite loop will bring more rainfall across the panhandle tonight into tomorrow, beginning with the northern panhandle and coastline before a front pushes eastward across the rest of the panhandle into tomorrow night. In this satellite loop, you can see the associated front offshore extending all the way up from the north Pacific as a plume of moisture feeds the system.

This system will bring potential for heavy rainfall at times, with the highest chances of heavy rainfall rates being for the NE Gulf Coastline where between 2 to 4 inches of rainfall is expected in 24 hours. For the rest of the northern panhandle, between 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected. The front will push eastward into Sunday night, bringing more rainfall further inland and across the southern half of the panhandle.

Good afternoon, Southeast Alaska! A low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska has brought rain across the Northern Panhandle. Sunday, rain chances will increase across the entire area as a front pushes through, with the heaviest rainfall expected across the Northeast Gulf Coast. By Tuesday, high pressure will begin to build in the Gulf, and that will lead to a general warming and drying trend for the area. You can always find your full forecast on weather.gov/juneau

Good morning SE Alaska! Light winds continue across the inner channels early this morning with a front on our doorstep pushing high cloud cover over the panhandle. For those up early enough, this lead to a picturesque sunrise in many parts of the panhandle as seen in the images below courtesy of FAA weathercams. Winds and seas will pick up through the day Saturday as a low takes up station south of Kodiak Island and rain spreads over a majority of the panhandle.

The northern gulf coast is still expected to receive the brunt of the rainfall from this system today, and a follow up one later tonight into Sunday. Southeasterly winds will pick up across the Gulf of Alaska with further increases to gale force along the northern coastal waters late tonight and through Sunday afternoon as a follow up system moves up from the south.

Wind and waves should diminish along with any rain chances into Monday as high pressure starts to build in from the south, with a relatively benign pattern setting up for early next week.

Hey Southeast AK, sunshine continues for most of the area. We here at the office hope that you are throughly enjoying it, just as the eagle at Eldred Rock was. For those of you in Yakutat, we apologize. Even though the clouds that have been lingering around for much of the day seem to be mixing out, clouds from the approaching system are quickly moving towards you.

The forecast for this weekend remains on track with rain initially moving into the Northern Gulf of Alaska and then sweeping over the Panhandle. A second system will follow a similar track for Sunday and Monday. For full details on the forecast including the Special Weather Statement that is out for Yakutat see https://www.weather.gov/ajk

Good afternoon, Southeast Alaska! Hopefully you enjoyed the drier weather we experienced today. As we head into the weekend, a low pressure system is going to bring rain chances and gusty winds for the Panhandle. Based on its current track, the highest winds (up to 35 kts) and heaviest rain (up to 3") is expected for the Yakutat area. Beginning Monday, a general drying and warming trend is expected for the Northern Panhandle with high pressure building in the Gulf of Alaska. With on shore winds, we'll still keep at least some rain chances. You can always find the full forecast on weather.gov/juneau

Good morning, Southeast!

Friday is shaping up to be a beautiful, sunny day with any lingering clouds clearing out through the morning. A low deck of clouds along the coast, what we call a marine layer, was pushing into many of our outer coastal communities and into some of the channels overnight. These low clouds are visible in light blue in the satellite imagery, and can be seen starting to pull away from the coast and thin out through the morning. The orange clouds in the satellite imagery depict the high clouds associated with the next front heading towards the northern Gulf Coast through Saturday morning.

Friday will remain clear and dry across the panhandle, allowing for daytime high temperatures to reach into the mid to high 60s, with some locations in the southern panhandle reaching the 70s. This will also allow for onshore sea breezes of 10 to 15 kts to develop, with Taiya Inlet into Skagway seeing potential for up to 20 to 25 kt gusts through the afternoon.
