Trail season is just around the corner, and we’re kicking it off with a trail-inspired First Friday collaboration to get your stoke in full throttle.

Join us in celebrating the work of Trail Mix volunteer and trail enthusiast Lanie McCarry. Her collection of 90+ trail paintings—inspired by Mary Lou King’s 90 Short Walks and supported by an artist grant from the Juneau Community Foundation—beautifully captures what it means to be in deep relationship with Juneau’s trails.

Start your evening at Alaska Robotics to take in Lanie’s hard work and support her art, then head next door to Amalga Distillery for a trail-themed drink. Swap stories from the trail, mark your favorite spots on the Juneau trail map, and stop by the Trail Mix booth to learn about the upcoming trail work season and how to get involved.

Happy trails, and happy spring!

After two years of mentorship, collaboration, and creative work, the community project Weaving Our Pride will culminate this March with the unveiling of two youth-created Pride robes: a Ravenstail robe and a Chilkat robe.

Developed in partnership with the Zach Gordon Youth Center, Weaving Our Pride brought together Native and non-Native youth, q***r and straight youth, cisgender and transgender youth, allies, and young people of many identities to sit side by side and learn the traditional art of Northwest Coast weaving. Working alongside mentor weavers — the majority of whom are q***r — Rae Mills, Hanna Schempf, Ricky Tagaban, Laine Rinehart, and Melina Meyer, youth participants completed both a Ravenstail robe and a Chilkat robe on site at the youth center.

WEAVING OUR PRIDE Coming Out Celebration
Tuesday, March 24th

3 - 5 pm - Open House at the Zach Gordon Youth Center
5:15 pm - PRIDE Walk from Zach Gordon Youth Center to Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé
6 pm - Chilkat and Ravenstail PRIDE robes danced at the Gold Medal Basketball Tournament by Eagle Raven your Dancers (admission required)

Community members are encouraged to attend any part of the celebration and help welcome these new ceremonial garments into community life.
