Congratulations to our Cadets!

The Cadets recently attended the 2026 Milwaukee Police Department Cadet Competition, where they competed against cadet posts from across the state in a variety of challenging law enforcement–based events.

We are proud to announce they brought home awards in multiple categories:
2nd Place – MILO2nd Place – Crisis Intervention3rd Place – Traffic Stop

These competitions test communication, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving skills in realistic scenarios, and our cadets represented our agency with professionalism and dedication throughout the event.

Great job to all of the cadets for the hard work and commitment you continue to show. We are proud of the way you represented our community!

Wisconsin State Law Enforcement Cadet Conference

Last weekend, our cadets attended the Wisconsin State Law Enforcement Cadet Conference.

Throughout the weekend, cadets competed in multiple events, including Force Options, Search Warrant, Incident Command, Vehicle Contacts, Active Threat Response, Airsoft Marksmanship, and a Law Test. They also attended a presentation on the Waukesha Parade incident and enjoyed a K9 demonstration.

We’re proud to share that the cadets earned second place in Force Options, and Cadet Payton Pieper placed fourth in the Law Test. Great work representing our program and agency!

Single Vehicle Serious Injury Crash

On September 8, 2025, at approximately 2:51pm, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a single vehicle crash on STHY 67 and Moss Rd. in the town of Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Initial investigation shows a 2018 Honda Odyssey was eastbound on STHY 67 west of Moss Rd. The vehicle crossed the center line and left the roadway on the north side of the road. The vehicle traveled through a standing corn field for approximately 75 yards and struck several trees before coming to rest on private property. The vehicle then started on fire and was fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of responding deputies. The 38-year-old driver from Oconomowoc was able to escape the vehicle and was transported by Flight for Life Wisconsin to a nearby hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Assisting at the scene were Iron Ridge Fire and EMS, Hustisford Fire Department, City of Hartford EMS, the Iron Ridge Police Department, the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team, and Flight for Life Wisconsin.
The name of the driver is being withheld as the crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Questions may be directed to Sheriff Dale J. Schmidt.

SIGNIFICANT STORM DAMAGE

At about 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Dodge County Area had significant storm cells that moved through the Dodge County area. As a result, significant damage has occurred, which primarily occurred in the Juneau and Mayville areas. Currently, residents in those affected areas are encouraged to shelter in place while emergency crews work to clean up damage and restore power. Many streets and highways are closed due to power lines and trees being down. We are asking that all non–residents avoid the cities of Juneau and Mayville to allow emergency responders to assist those affected.

DO NOT drive around barricades or emergency vehicles unless directed to do so, as the streets and highways are closed for your safety.

City of Juneau residents who have been displaced from their homes are encouraged to report to Dodgeland Schools 401, S. Western Ave, Juneau, WI.

City of Mayville residents who have been displaced from their homes are encouraged to report to the Tag Center, 1700 Breckenridge St, Mayville.

Red Cross and Dodge County Health and Human Services/Public Health are on scene to assist.

At this point, only minor injuries have been reported to emergency personnel.

Additional information will be relayed to the public later this evening at 8:30 pm. A press conference will be held at the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, 124 West St. Access to the Sheriff’s Office must be from the south side of Juneau, as the north side of Juneau is completely shut down.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to meet the public’s needs.

Animal Cruelty Arrest Town of Elba

On Monday, February 24, 2025, a deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the town of Elba for a report of an animal mistreatment allegation. The deputy located a severely malnourished dog in the garage area of the residence, which was then surrendered to the Dodge County Humane Society. The dog was a female poodle mixed-breed dog that was approximately two years in age. The dog was transferred to a veterinary clinic in Dodge County, and additional veterinary resources were also utilized in the attempt to revive the dog. Ultimately, the dog died during the early morning hours of March 7, 2025. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division requested a forensic necropsy on the dog. It was determined that the dog was severely emaciated and died as a result of chronic starvation. On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, deputies with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded back to the residence in the town of Elba. At that time, James R. Dettloff (47) and Tashina R. Dettloff (31) were arrested for animal cruelty violations and transported to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Jail.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Dodge County Humane Society for their continued collaboration and service to Dodge County. Additionally, we would like to thank the veterinary service providers for the assistance and care they provided during this investigation. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Dodge County Humane Society, Marsh View Veterinary Clinic, Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center – Waukesha, Madison Veterinary Specialists, Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and the Columbus Police Department.

As a reminder, these arrested persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
