A big thank you to the House Finance committee for hearing House Bill 90 yesterday.
HB 90 would create a financial literacy program in grades 9-12. I think teaching students financial literacy is one of the most impactful ways to make sure our students are better equipped for the world. This curriculum would include topics such as how to open and manage accounts with a financial institution, making a budget, the principles of loan applications, debt, insurance policies, federal income tax, and avoiding financial deception and predatory lending.

Yesterday the House passed House Bill 78, which would bring about a new pension program. This new shared risk defined benefit pension plan for Alaska's public employees would be a modern and long-term solution for keeping qualified employees in Alaska.
This is a step closer to securing a better future for Alaska by investing in our public servants and communities. I am happy to have voted in favor of it.

AKNWRC invites you to join us in wearing red today to call attention to the MMIW crisis while remembering all of the Indigenous peoples lost to violence and to demand justice.

Red has a deep meaning in many Indigenous cultures, believed to be the only color our spirits see. Wearing red, we call back the spirits of our missing and murdered loved ones.

Hanna Harris was a Citizen of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, who was missing for 5 days before being found murdered. Montana's state legislature passed legislation that recognizes Hanna’s Birthday, May 5th the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives.

We wear red on May 5th for Hanna and all of our missing and murdered loved ones.

This week I presented to the House Labor & Commerce Committee on HB 192 that would increase the unemployment benefits for the first time since 2009, and inflation proof them moving forward.

This is a great bill that will help Alaskans, and I am excited to continue pushing it forward.
