Scout & Bandit | Coatimundi

White-nosed coatimundi have a distinctive, elongated, and flexible snout that is used for foraging.

This snout is tipped with a sensitive nose that helps them locate food by sniffing out insects, fruits, and other edibles in the leaf litter and under rocks.

The nose is also quite mobile, capable of rotating up to 60 degrees in any direction.

Chickens are truly an under appreciated therapy animal.

Their calming presence, unique personalities, and ability to foster routine can be beneficial for those experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness, and even more serious conditions like PTSD. Caring for chickens can also provide a sense of purpose and responsibility, which can be therapeutic for individuals struggling with mental health or physical disabilities.

Meet Bahti, our male Bush Baby.

A bush baby, also known as a galago, is a small primate native to Africa. These nocturnal creatures are known for their large eyes, which help them see in the dark, and their remarkable leaping abilities (they can jump 7 feet) . They belong to the family Galagidae and are closely related to lemurs.

Bush babies get their name from the baby-like cries they make in the night.

Did you know the name coatimundi is believed to come from the Tupian languages indigenous to South America?

Their word, kua’ti, is a combination of “cua” meaning “belt” and “tim” meaning “nose,” describing the way the coati sleeps with its nose tucked into its belly.

Coatis use these special noses to sniff out grubs like beetles and termites, plus the occasional frog, lizard, or mouse.

Unlike raccoons, who are primarily nocturnal, coatis stay awake during the day.

The name “coatimundi” was originally used to describe adult males that live alone (translating into “lone coati”), but it is now used universally to describe both sexes.
