There has never been a more important time than now to RISE UP AND RESIST. To be most effective and do the best work, we need activists who are well-equipped with the skills needed to help educate and lead our communities.

Women's March Hawaii will be sending a delegation to the Women's Convention in Houston, TX from August 12 - 14, 2022.

Intersectionality.
This convention is not just about Women's Rights or Reproductive Justice. This convention will focus on many aspects of justice and how they all intersect in various ways, including (but not limited to) Climate Justice, Immigration, LGBTQI+ Justice, Racial Justice, Women + Safety (ending gun violence, Self Defense) and Worker’s Rights.

Two of our rally organizers, Keisa and Maya, wrapped up the event with a recitation of Amanda Gorman's spoken word poem, "8 REASONS to stand up today against abortion bans in the United States”:

"When the penalty for r**e is less than the penalty for abortion after the r**e, you know this isn’t about caring for women and girls. It’s about controlling them.

Through forcing them into motherhood before they’re ready, these bans steadily sustain the patriarchy, but also chain families in poverty and maintain economic inequality.

Pregnancy is a private and personal decision and should not require the permission of any politician.

For all time, regardless of whether it’s a crime, women have and will always seek their own reproductive destinies. All these penalties do is subdue women’s freedom to get healthy, safe services when they most need them.

Fight to keep Roe v. Wade alive. By the term ‘overturn Roe v. Wade‘, the main concern is that the Supreme Court will let states thwart a woman’s path to abortion with undue burdens.

One thing is true and certain: These predictions aren’t a distortion, hypothetical, or theoretical. Women already face their disproportion of undue burdens when seeking abortions. If the sexes and all people are to be equal, abortion has to be actually accessible and not just technically legal.

Despite what you might hear, this right here isn’t only about women and girls. This fight is about about fundamental civil rights. Women are a big part of it, but at the heart of it are freedom over how fast our families grow goes farther and larger than any one of us. It’s about every single one of us.

This change can’t wait. We’ve got the energy, the moment, the movement, and the thundering numbers."

Thank you to all of those who came out yesterday to rally for women's rights. And if you couldn't be there in person, thank you to those of you who were there in spirit and sent messages of support.

We had around 420 participants lined up along Kaʻahumanu Avenue in Kahului on Saturday morning. We had people of all ages and walks of life lined up in protest to send a message to SCOTUS:

Uphold Roe V. Wade.

From mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters, to fathers, brothers, husbands and allies, all were present in support of women's rights to make decisions as they pertain to their private reproductive health. Our Mothers and Grandmothers have been holding the line (and often the protest sign!) and forging the path for all of us to maintain bodily autonomy for almost 50 years. We cannot go back.

We will fight for our rights to our privacy and reproductive control. We will not go back.
