This is a Civil Defense Message.

This is a Tropical Storm Information update for Sunday 08-30-2026 at 07:16 AM. August 30 at 7:00am.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor Tropical Storm Lowell which presently is not presenting with any immediate threat to Hawaii.

As of 5:00 am this morning, Tropical Storm Lowell was located approximately 1070 miles east southeast of Hilo and moving west at 13 mph.

Lowell is generating sustained winds of 50 mph with higher gusts and tropical storm force winds extend outward 70 miles from the center of the system.

Currently Lowell is not posing an immediate threat to the state, and will be monitored closely, and you will be kept informed of any developments.

Although it is too early to forecast with confidence what if any effects Lowell will have on the state, it is always better to take the time to prepare for possible bad weather.

As we continue through what has been forecast to be a more active hurricane season, residents and businesses are encouraged to review and develop preparedness plans.

This is a Civil Defense Message.

This is a Tropical Storm Information update for Saturday 08-29-2026 at 07:19 AM.

The National Weather Service is monitoring Tropical Storm Lowell which currently is not presenting with any immediate threat to Hawaii.

As of 5:00 am this morning, Tropical Storm Lowell was located approximately 1370 miles east southeast of Hilo and moving west at 8 mph.

Lowel is generating sustained winds of 45 mph with higher gusts and tropical storm force winds extend outward 70 miles from the center of the system.

Although Tropical Storm Lowell is not posing an immediate threat to the state, it will be monitored closely, and you will be kept informed of any developments.

The National Weather had previously forecast this hurricane season to be more active than usual and the possibility of above average tropical cyclone activity in our area.

As we continue through hurricane season, residents and businesses are encouraged to review and develop preparedness plans.

This is a Civil Defense message for Tuesday 08-25-2026 at 07:49 PM.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Kilauea Volcano Eruption Episode 54 which began earlier today at Kilauea Summit has ended.

If you are in an area downwind from the eruption, and have sensitivity to ashfall, please take necessary precautions to limit your exposure. If you are downwind and are on water catchment, disconnect your catchment tank to clean roof and gutters.

This is a Civil Defense Ashfall Update message for Tuesday 08-25-2026 at 01:42 PM.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Kilauea Volcano Eruption Episode 54 which began at 10:30 AM this morning, that fine ash is being carried southwest by trade winds that has the potential to reach downwind communities of Wood Valley and Pahala for the next several hours.

Should you be downwind and experience fine ashfall in your area:

Please limit exposure as ashfall can cause skin and eye irritation.

Please avoid exposure, especially those with sensitivities and respiratory conditions.

Please limit being outdoor until ashfall subsides.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports Kilauea Volcano Eruption Episode 54 began at 08-25-2026 10:30 AM at Kilauea Summit. Elevated gas levels, ash, and tephra - fine glass particles that may irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system is present in the area and downwind of the eruption.

Trade winds are forecast to carry ashfall southwest into the Ka`u Desert, and away from nearby communities.

On roadways, beware of tephra, which may reduce visibility and increase traffic congestion. Take necessary precautions to limit your exposure.

There are no other threats to the community at this time.

As the remnants of Tropical Depression Moke continue to move away from the state and there is no further threat from that system, this will be the last information update.

The weather systems and areas of interest far off to the east of Hawaii currently pose no concern or threat. However, as we continue through hurricane season, all developments will be monitored and tracked, and you will be kept informed.

As previously communicated, the Central Pacific region is anticipated to have an active hurricane season. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and take the time to develop your personal, family, and business emergency preparedness plans.

Recovery efforts from Hurricane Lala continue and include power and communications restoration and road and highway repairs and clearing.

Motorists are asked to avoid the Kau District if possible to allow for area residents to conduct their clean up and recovery activities without interference and allow for essential road repair operations to be completed effectively and safely.

As of 5:00am this morning Tropical Depression Moke was located approximately 715 miles southwest of Hilo and moving west at 14mph and producing winds of up to 35 mph.

Moke is expected to remain on its westward track and move away from Hawaii Island and continue to weaken.

Although conditions are forecast to improve, parts of Hawaii Island may continue to experience gusty winds and possibly heavy rains and the potential for flooding.

Hawaii Island remains on a Flood Watch through this afternoon.

Rainfall of up to 2-4 inches may occur in some areas across the windward and southeast slopes of Hawaii Island. This includes the Kau district where grounds may be saturated and areas impacted significantly by Hurricane Lala.

Please anticipate possible hazardous road conditions and drive safely.

Recovery efforts from Hurricane Lala continue and include power and communications restoration and road and highway repairs and clearing.

The National Weather Service 5:00 bulletin reports Tropical Storm Moke has weakened and is now a Tropical Depression.

Currently Moke is located approximately 335 miles southeast of Hilo and moving west at 14mph.

Moke is presently producing winds of 35 mph.

Although the system has weakened and the wind hazard has decreased, Moke continues to present with the potential for heavy rains and possible flood conditions.

The Flood Watch for Hawaii Island is forecast to remain in effect through tomorrow afternoon. Of particular concern for possible flooding are the areas of Kau that were significantly impacted by Hurricane Lala and where ground conditions remain saturated.

For those in need of shelter assistance, the Naalehu School Gym and Robert Herkes Gym in Pahala will remain open through tonight and into tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Moke is forecast to pass South of Hawaii Island today. Maximum sustained winds of 45 mph extend outward up to 90 miles as Tropical Storm Moke moves West at 15 mph.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings associated with Tropical Storm Moke but there is a Flood Watch for Hawaii Island through Monday. However, heavy rain, 5 to 10 inches, and wind, especially at higher elevations, are forecast to impact Hawaii Island today through Monday.

As a precaution, you should stay off the roads and shelter in place today. Or you can take shelter at one of the following locations:

Yano Hall in Captain Cook
Naalehu Elementary School
Robert Herkes Gym in Pahala
Keaau Armory
Puueo Community Center in Wainaku
Correction to the shelter list. It is the Pahoa Senior Center and not the Pahala Senior Center as previously announced.

Please remember that the Central Pacific is in hurricane season from June 1st to November 30th. Please take this time to review your family emergency plan for hurricanes and your emergency kit.
