This dude got his DD-214 the other day. It means nothing and everything all at once. We all get there. At some point. But it also means, that though everything changes, nothing does. I’ll always be a part of this family. I’ll always love this Battery and our Corps. This page will endure. This family, will endure. I’m always here for you dudes and dudettes. You might not know where to find me, but you’ll always know how to reach me. My number hasn’t changed. Never will. I love you to death. I mean that.

Neither time nor space can sully the bonds that were created in America Battery. Even though it’s been almost a year since the battery deactivated, we still find reason to continue our camraderie. One of the most cherished and honored gifts a commander can receive is the guidon that their Marines carried to represent their unit. Today, over 7,000 miles away from Hawaii, Major Williams was finally delivered ours by the former battery First Sergeant. It’s a fitting closure to one of the greatest batteries that ever was or will be.

Even though America Battery continues to divest our Marines across the Battalion and Corps, we continue to recognize their accomplishments and contributions. This week the Battery Commander, First Lieutenant R. Claire Smith, was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for her time while serving as the Battery’s Executive Officer. She was able to increase equipment and materiel readiness to levels that were previously unseen in the Battery. She was able to integrate the Battery’s pre-deployment training with agencies and sister services across the Joint Force to accomplish operational and strategic missions that were on the edge of innovation in the Pacific Area of Operations. Congratulations, Ma’am! Well deserved.

Even though is deactivating and we have sent many of our Marines to other places in the Corps, we always want to make sure they know they will always be a family. Today the Battery CO and 1stSgt had the privilege of promoting another one of our Marines. Corporal Zackary Munderville was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant today surrounded by the Marines he has served and served with. Though he has moved on to Cutthroat Battery, we know that he will carry on the he helped build with us. Congratulations Sergeant!

On December 17th Major Williams relinquished command of America Battery to First Lieutenant Smith in a change of command ceremony held at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Yesterday, Major Williams and his family departed for his next assignment in Germany. To say that there is a empty spot in our hearts is an understatement. He has been the best commander, friend, and father figure we could have asked for. That’s why we lovingly call him, “Dad.” He epitomized what it was to not just lead Marines, but to love them. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal upon completion of his tour and was also inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara. Fair winds and following seas, Sir! We love you!
