ATTN RESIDENTS:

THRHA has limited remaining Homeowner Assistance Funds that we would like to fully expend before the grant closes at the end of September. We are prioritizing elders or those who need assistance to continue living in their homes.

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY SEPTEMBER 10 to ensure we have time to process and close out the grant.

Homeowners Assistance may include:

- Property Taxes
- Electricity
- Heating
- Water
- Sewer
- Trash Invoices
- Home Insurance
- Mortgage Assistance

On behalf of the City of Kake, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Christian Veterinary Mission team, Dr. Paula Gibson, Heather Stitzel, and Hailey Davis, for traveling to Kake to provide a free veterinary clinic for our beloved fur babies. This was the first veterinary service provided in Kake in more than 25 years, making it truly special for our community.

I would also like to recognize Carl Ramseth of Alaska Seaplanes for making the introductions and connecting me with the Christian Veterinary Mission team. Your efforts helped turn the vision of a veterinary clinic in Kake into a reality. Thank you, Alaska Seaplanes, for your continued support of the pets and families of Kake.

A huge thank you as well to Joey Chang and the Presbyterian Church for graciously providing housing for the veterinary team, and to the wonderful volunteers who stepped up to help make the clinic a success: Monica Ashenfelter, Jori Grant, Angie Nelson, and Katie Anderson. Your time, energy, and compassion are deeply appreciated.

We sincerely apologize that we could not see every animal in need of services due to the limited time available. Although the veterinary team was here for only one day, they accomplished an incredible amount. In total, they:

🐾 Spayed/neutered 25 pets
🐾 Vaccinated 44 pets
🐾 Provided care for 4 pets with illnesses

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this clinic possible and for the incredible care provided to the animals of Kake.

The City of Kake and the Christian Veterinary Mission team are already planning the next clinic with Dr. Gibson, and we are hopeful that this will become an annual event for our community.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this happen. Kake is truly grateful! Mayor Cavanaugh❤️🐾

The Kake vet clinic will begin Tuesday, August 18th at 10:00 am through Wednesday, August 19th morning at the Portage harbormaster building. All people listed for spays/neuters on the sign up sheets have been contacted, or had messages left on their voicemails.

We have not reached out to all people only needing vaccinations for their pets. Since the technicians are able to give vaccines, people can stop by the harbormaster building at Kake Portage after 2 pm Tuesday, (tomorrow) to see how busy the schedule is or if technicians are available.

Please remember if your pet is scheduled for surgery, no food on the day of surgery.

The City Hall phone is still not working. Please call the Harbor Cell phone number ( 907-518-1751) if you need to talk to City Hall during the working hours of 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM M-F. Sorry for the inconvenience, we are feeling frustrated also with the lack of progress from the phone company.
