Notice: The June 11 Planning Commission meeting has been canceled due to no agenda items ready for review.

We continue detailed work on a draft ordinance for utility-scale energy systems. Staff has prepared 30+ pages of draft language, and our external expert has provided 40+ pages of comments and alternatives. With a moratorium in place, no application on file, and the project not in the MISO queue, we have time to do this carefully and thoroughly.

Battery energy storage is now a standing agenda item at Township Board meetings, and residents can also share perspectives at Supervisor Open Office Hours and our new Community Conversations series as the ordinance is developed.

City of Kalamazoo Water Distribution crews have shut down the transmission main damaged on June 3 and isolated the issue to a small area east of US-131. No residents are impacted by this temporary shutdown.

Flows are being rerouted to maintain normal water pressure and system demands.

Beginning tomorrow, crews will install new pipe and a new hydrant to resolve the issue, while keeping the area isolated from the rest of the system so that service to residents remains unaffected.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: Water Service in Oshtemo Township - north of West Main and west of US 131

Will share more information as it becomes available.

From City of Kalamazoo:

City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services crews are responding to shut down a 12” water transmission main that was severed by contractors working in an area north of Beech.

This 12” water transmission main provides service to Oshtemo Township in the areas north of West Main and west of US 131.

Low or no water pressure, air, and aesthetic water quality concerns are anticipated.

This is an evolving situation. We will provide updates as they become available. Our immediate priorities are shutting down the transmission main and restoring system pressure.
