As of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 12:30 PM, the City of Kalamazoo continues to make significant progress in response to the high wind event that caused widespread damage on Monday night.
Crews from City of Kalamazoo Public Services, Public Safety, Emergency Management, and Consumers Energy have worked tirelessly in a coordinated effort to clear debris, restore access to roadways, and assist residents as quickly and safely as possible. These efforts have continued with all available resources being utilized to move the city toward full restoration of normal operations. As a result of this ongoing work, the following streets, which were previously closed due to downed trees and/or power lines, have now been reopened:

Since the last news release was issued yesterday morning, the City of Kalamazoo has responded to several additional reports of road closures caused by downed trees and power lines. The following roadways remain closed and were not included in the previous release:

While progress continues, some areas across the city may still be impacted. Residents are urged to remain cautious when traveling, as hazards such as downed trees or power lines still exist.
Important Safety Reminder:
Stay far away from any downed power lines. There is no safe way to determine if a line is energized, and contact can be deadly.
The City of Kalamazoo remains committed to continuing response and recovery operations until all streets are cleared and full operations resume. Additional updates will be shared as conditions improve. We appreciate the communityโs continued patience and cooperation.

As of Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 7 AM, the City of Kalamazoo is continuing to respond to the impacts of last nightโs high winds, which caused widespread downed trees and power lines. Crews from City of Kalamazoo Public Services, Kalamazoo Public Safety, and Consumers Energy have been working throughout the night to respond to calls, clear debris, and address hazardous conditions.
