Five years ago, 16-year-old Suniya was walking with friends along Gull Road when her life was taken far too soon. She would have been 21 years old, finishing college, furthering her accomplishments, and living out her dreams.

Suniya is remembered as someone who cared deeply about others. She was known for her kindness, her compassion, and her willingness to stand up for people who needed a voice. Those who knew her continue to honor her memory through the impact she made during her meaningful life.

While five years have passed, the pain of losing Suniya has not faded for her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched.
We continue to ask for the public's help. If you have any information about Suniya's deathโ€”even something you may think is insignificantโ€”please contact investigators at 269-381-0391. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Silent Observer at 269-343-2100, online at KalamazooSilentObserver.com, or through the P3 Tips app.

On July 22, 2026, officers with the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of Glendale Boulevard in the City of Parchment.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an argument occurred between a female resident and an adult male following an interaction related to driving behavior. During the incident, the male's dog entered the resident's property, leading to a further exchange.

The individuals involved provided differing accounts regarding whether a firearm was displayed during the incident. Investigators reviewed the evidence currently available; however, the information obtained did not independently corroborate either account. As a result, no arrests were made.

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is aware that this incident has generated significant discussion on social media. The investigation remains ongoing, and investigators continue to review available information and evidence.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information that may assist investigators is asked to contact the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department or Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch at (269) 488-8911. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may provide information through Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Township of Kalamazoo Fire Department responded to a report of two portable restrooms on fire at the Westwood Little League complex, located at 3435 Grand Prairie Road.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented further damage to nearby property. During their initial investigation, firefighters determined the fire was suspicious in nature and requested assistance from the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department.

Through witness interviews and the subsequent investigation, officers identified a juvenile suspect believed to be responsible for intentionally setting the fire. The juvenile was located a short time later, taken into custody without incident, and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. Arson-related charges have been submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office for review.

The fire destroyed two portable restrooms and a trash receptacle. Heat from the fire also damaged an electronic scoreboard located above the fire.

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department and Township of Kalamazoo Fire Department extend their sincere condolences to the Westwood Little League organization, its volunteers, players, families, and the many baseball and softball enthusiasts from throughout the region who have enjoyed these facilities for generations. Community parks and athletic facilities are gathering places that bring people together, and it is unfortunate when acts of vandalism or arson impact the experiences of the young athletes and families who rely on them. We remain committed to working alongside Westwood Little League as they recover from this incident.

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department and Fire Department would also like to thank the Westwood Little League staff and community members who provided timely information that assisted investigators. Their cooperation was instrumental in the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect.
