The public hearing will take place inside the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, located at 241 W. South Street.
At 6 p.m., the Social Justice Youth Awards Ceremony will be held in the Chambers. The ceremony is expected to conclude at 6:45 p.m. The Regular Business Meeting will recess and restart at 7 p.m., and the public hearing will follow the Ceremonies and Introduction of Guests portion of the meeting. The City of Kalamazoo respectfully asks those attending the rezoning public hearing to be mindful of this event and its participants with arrival times. City staff will be available to assist with arrival, building access, and directions throughout the evening.
Due to strong community interest in the rezoning public hearing, the City of Kalamazoo has prepared accommodations to ensure that all individuals who wish to provide public comment will have a fair and equal opportunity to do so. Public Comment will occur in an orderly manner to ensure everyone has their opportunity to speak while not standing in long lines for hours. Public comments speakers will be called to enter the line a row or two at a time from each room or viewing area within City Hall. Everyone will have the opportunity to speak to the rezoning request - whether in person or through call-in comments and in the general public comment. City staff will be on hand to direct speakers and guide this effort. A ticketing system will not be used.
The public hearing for the rezoning will include an opportunity for phone comment call in. During the public hearing after the in-person public comments, individuals may call 1-888-382-9556 to provide public comment. The call-in is ONLY for the public hearing and not for general public comment. Individuals may also view the meeting live on YouTube or on Facebook.
The City of Kalamazoo’s goal is to conduct the public hearing in a manner that is accessible, respectful, and fair, while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.
