The victim of the August 22, 2026, homicide has been identified as 30-year-old Angel Marie Curtis. KDPS extends its deepest condolences to Ms. Curtisโs family and loved ones.
Investigators determined that Ms. Curtis was the victim of a drive-by shooting while she was sitting in a vehicle parked along the 700 block of Florence Street. The motive remains unknown, and it is unclear whether Ms. Curtis was the intended target or whether she was known to the suspects.
Witness statements and license plate reader information helped investigators quickly identify the suspect vehicle. Officers followed leads and located the vehicle later that same day abandoned in the 1300 block of N. Westnedge Avenue. Detectives continue to investigate who was inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
KDPS is asking for the publicโs help in identifying those responsible for Ms. Curtisโs death. Even a small piece of information could help investigators move this case forward. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the people involved is encouraged to come forward.
Silent Observer will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible.

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at approximately 2:17 a.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) heard multiple gunshots in the area of Florence Street and Cobb Avenue while on patrol nearby. As officers investigated, they learned that a gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital.
A 30-year-old female was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, she later died at the hospital.
The investigation is in its preliminary stages, and no suspect information is available at this time.
