The Ladies' Library Association (LLA) grew from a reading and sewing circle started in 1844. Its members envisioned a community that valued education and culture. Formally organized in 1852, the LLA became the first women's club to be established in the State of Michigan and the third in the nation.

Sometimes, maintaining a garden requires more than a hand trowel and hedge clippers. Garden Chair Barb Knickerbocker enlisted the help of Roots Tree Service to remove the dead tree that threatened the side of our building. They did an excellent job, leaving barely a stump behind!

The 17th annual President’s welcome to new, current and past Seita Scholars was held at WMU on Wed. Oct. 22nd. The program highlighted the past accomplishments of the program graduates, the awarding of 4 student achievement awards honoring the program founders: Dr. John Seita, Penny Bundy, Mark Delorey and Dr. Yvonne Unrau, and the introduction of the new class of 2025-26. WMU President, Dr. Russ Kavaluhna and various other program directors, coaches and students shared their thoughts on the themes of the year: Educate. Empower and Belong. Ronicka Hamilton, program director, expressed heartfelt gratitude to their career mentors, donors, WMU faculty and staff and university leadership.

The Seita Scholarship program provides students who have aged out of foster care with intentional coaching, safe housing and a sense of belonging while they pursue their education at WMU. The LLA is proud to have been recognized for our support of this critical mission.
