We are aware of misinformation being shared on social media that the Kalamazoo Youth Home is without heat. This is not true. There was blower unit which malfunctioned and stopped in one isolated area on Saturday. The building did not go without heat. The County’s Buildings and Grounds crew did an excellent job. They responded immediately and repaired the malfunction within hours. The heating system remains fully operational.
The juvenile home does hand out extra blankets to youth. This is a common practice anytime the temperatures drop.
