Last week, members of the Kalona Fire Department took part in our annual hands-on vehicle extrication training. These exercises are essential in keeping our skills sharp and ensuring we are ready when every second counts.
A big shout out to Ethan Kos for putting together an awesome video capturing some of the action.

After the past week, we know that shoveling is the last thing anyone wants to do right now. However; we wanted to remind everyone that having fire hydrants cleared with access is just as important as having your driveway and sidewalks cleared. Having easily accessible hydrants saves firemen precious time in the event of an emergency. Thank you for helping us serve our community and keep everyone safe.

With October being National Fire Safety Month, one of the things KVFD loves to do is go to Mid-Prairie East Elementary to talk to students and staff about fire safety. We talk about smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, what students should do if there is a fire in their house, where to go if that happens and how to stay safe. Also, showing students what we look like and sound like in case there is a fire so they know we are their friends and are there to help them and not to hide from us. As always, we encourage you to check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Also, talk to your children, have an escape plan and practice it with them so in case of emergency they are prepared. Thanks everyone and stay safe.

Due to the winds forecasted, we will not be able to put up tents outside for the pancake breakfast tomorrow. We will have people line up on the south side of the station out of the wind. Coffee will be served in the line to help keep you warm and we will move you through the line as fast as possible. Dress warm and come hungry. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
