Today, we honor the legacy of King Kamehameha I, whose vision and leadership united the Hawaiian Islands and laid the foundation for the Hawaiʻi we know and cherish today.
The story of Hawaiʻi’s paniolo culture is deeply rooted in that legacy. Captain George Vancouver gifted cattle to King Kamehameha I eventually leading to the introduction of Mexican vaqueros and the birth of Hawaiʻi’s unique paniolo.
As we celebrate Kamehameha Day, we recognize the enduring connection between the King’s legacy and the paniolo way of life — a tradition built on stewardship, hard work, and aloha for the land.
Happy Kamehameha Day from Parker Ranch.
