130,000 acres on Hawai‘i Island
A landmark in U.S. ranching. Premium beef. Renowned livestock. Enduring legacy.

Parker Ranch was established in 1847 and remains one of the largest and oldest cattle ranches in the United States. In 1992, following the death of sixth generation Parker descendant Richard Palmer Kaleioku Smart, it became part of the charitable Parker Ranch Foundation Trust. PRFT’s mission is focused on the sustainability of the Waimea community, the hometown of Parker Ranch, by providing perpet

ual support for PRFT’s four Waimea-based beneficiaries: Queens North Hawai‘i Community Hospital, Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, Parker School Trust Corporation and the Richard Smart Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation. Parker Ranch, Inc., established in 1995 and wholly-owned by PRFT, continues cattle ranching and is proactively leveraging its and the trust’s extensive land and natural resources to support the trust’s beneficiaries, achieve a secure energy future, expand the sustainability of local food systems, and facilitate the general betterment of the Waimea area. Today, we honor the legacy of King Kamehameha I, whose vision and leadership united the Hawaiian Islands and laid the foundation for the Hawaiʻi we know and cherish today.

The story of Hawaiʻi’s paniolo culture is deeply rooted in that legacy. Captain George Vancouver gifted cattle to King Kamehameha I eventually leading to the introduction of Mexican vaqueros and the birth of Hawaiʻi’s unique paniolo.

As we celebrate Kamehameha Day, we recognize the enduring connection between the King’s legacy and the paniolo way of life — a tradition built on stewardship, hard work, and aloha for the land.

Happy Kamehameha Day from Parker Ranch.

Today we honor and celebrate the birthday of Richard Smart, a man whose aloha for the land, the paniolo way of life, and the people of Hawaiʻi helped shape the spirit of Parker Ranch for generations.
His vision carried forward the legacy of stewardship, hard work, and mālama ʻāina, values that still guide us today across the open pastures and beneath the slopes of Mauna Kea. Through his leadership, the traditions of the Hawaiian cowboy and the heart of Waimea continue to live on.
On this special day, we remember Richard Smart with deep gratitude and aloha. Hauʻoli Lā Hānau, and mahalo nui loa for the lasting legacy you gifted to Parker Ranch and our Hawaiʻi community.

From the pastures in Waimea to the streets of Honokaʻa

Parker Ranch was proud to ride in this year’s Western Week Parade, celebrating the paniolo spirit, our Waimea roots, and the Paniolo who continue to carry this legacy forward.

Mahalo to everyone who came out to cheer, wave, and celebrate with us.

From pasture to plate, it all comes full circle.
At Parker Ranch, the way we raise our cattle is a reflection of who we are—care, respect, and intention in every step. When you cook for someone, it’s love—and this is how we share it.
