Another piece of Aloha Stadium came down today, and with it came a flood of memories.

Watching the dismantling continue is bittersweet for so many of us who grew up with Aloha Stadium as a backdrop to some of life's biggest moments. I was there on opening night, September 12, 1975, and over the past 51 years, I've joined generations of Hawaiʻi residents in cheering, celebrating, and gathering inside those walls.
From UH football games and Pro Bowls to concerts, graduations, and community events, Aloha Stadium was more than concrete and steel. It was a place where memories were made, traditions were born, and our community came together.

While it is difficult to watch this chapter come to a close, I am grateful for the role Aloha Stadium played in the lives of so many people across Hawaiʻi. The structure may be coming down, but the memories created there will stand for generations.

Mahalo, Aloha Stadium. Thank you for 51 years of unforgettable moments.

Be careful on the roads! There’s heavy runoff and flooding in areas. The Honolulu Police Department has set up the Department Operations Center at HPD headquarters as the severe weather continues. If lights are out at an intersection, please remember to treat it as a four-way stop!

Heavy rain and runoff are happening right now on O‘ahu as a flash flood warning remains in effect. Avoid getting on the roads if at all possible and don’t drive through flowing water. The City’s Emergency Operations Center has been stood up and is monitoring the situation closely and ready to deploy assets as needed.
