Hello all, Tom Logan has just completed a book that chronologizes the 16,000 mile fishing trip with his son Joey before he join the Marines. Tom and his wife, Debbie have made it their goal to honor Joey and the other Marines that were killed in action in Afghanistan by building a retreat for Veterans in the mountains of Montana. This is where Joey was going to build a life for himself, family and friends after leaving the Marines. Please support Tom & Debbie in purchasing this book. All proceeds will benefit the Red Lions Project. https://redlionproject.org/ Please share this link as well. Thank you! Semper Fidelis. https://a.co/d/19gsGDb

Hello all,

I am writing this message to solicit volunteers for a VERY worthy project to help disabled Veterans. I will try and keep this as brief as possible. In Jan 2012, Irontail 06, a helicopter in my Squadron crashed and six Marines were killed in action. Captains Daniel Bartle & Nathan McHone, Master Sergeant Travis Riddick, & Corporals Kevin Reinhard, Jesse Stites & Joseph (Joey) Logan. Debbie & Tom Logan, Joey’s parents, made a vow to fulfil Joey’s dream of living in Montana. They purchased property on a mountain and named it the Red Lions Project after the Squadron, the Lucky Red Lions. Their goal was to build a cabin to honor each Marine along with a recreation cabin, etc. and provide a free service for disabled Veterans to enjoy spending time in the mountains of Montana.

I have been fortunate to spend some time up on the mountain and they have made OUTSTANDING progress over last ten years or so. But they are in need of help now to finish up their dream for Joey. They usually head to the mountain in May and stay until September. They are looking for people to help with the building, etc. any time during this period. You can come out for a few days, a week or even two.

You don’t have to a “Master Builder” to assist. The main perquisite is to be a good worker. You will be directed on the tasks to be completed. So, if you can swing a hammer, paint, shovel, run a table saw, drill, etc. you are already qualified. You must have your own transportation to the airport in Missoula, MT. You will be picked up if you choose to fly. If you have your own transportation, the closest city to the mountain is Superior. Your housing (a cabin) and your food will be taken care of while you are there.

It is in the wilderness; it is peaceful & quiet. You will not be quite “roughing it”, but it isn’t a hotel either. You can purchase a fishing license for a nominal fee. Hunting is more challenging due to their laws. You can visit Montana’s Fish, Wildlife & Parks website for more information.

You can also visit and follow the Red Lions Project page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/redlionproject to find out more about the Mountain. We are looking for upstanding people that want to give something of themselves to help Veterans. Please, no one who is looking to scam us. Yes, there are people out there that are doing it.

So, if you are interested and want more information about assisting this worthy cause. Please IM me at https://www.facebook.com/mitchell.green2 and I will connect you with Tom Logan. Thank you and Semper Fi. Mitch Green, SgtMaj (Ret)

Col David Rabb, US Army, came to visit the squadron days after we lost Irontail 06 with a therapy dog and some time for anyone who needed it. Our squadron and our loss touched him and some years later he wrote the following poem. I thought tonight, the eve of the 5th anniversary, would be a good time to share. Never forget these men; Captain Bartle, Captain McHone, Master Sergeant Riddick, Corporal Stites, Corporal Reinhard, Corporal Logan.

Semper Fi,
Mark Revor

Reflections #8: Ramp Ceremony - 21 January 2012

In the form of a whisper we hear: “Platoon! Attent-hut!”… “Mark time”… “March!"... “For-ward… March!”

Time stands still as…

48 Marines move forward as the Marine Corps' Hymn commences:

“From the Hall of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli…"

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence… “left/right/left.”

“We will fight out country’s battles in the air, on land and sea…”

They move in a tight formation through the straight path made for them leading to the plane…

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence … “left/right/left."

“First to fight for the right and freedom and to keep our honor clean;…”

Time stands still as…

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence … “left/right/left.”

“We are proud to claim the title of United States Marines.”

Moving through the cold, wind and rain at Kandahar Airfield on the downcast January day…

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence … “left/right/left.”

“Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze; from day to setting sun…”

Moving through the rather large crowd of VIPs, officers, and enlisted soldiers; ignoring the surrender of our salute…

Time stands still as…

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence… “left/right/left.”

“We have fought in ever clime and place, where we could take a gun…”

Onto the ramp and into the belly of the plane...

Time stands still as...

48 Marines move to the whisper of cadence… “left/right/left.”

“In the snow of far-off Northern lands and in sunny tropic scenes, you will find us always on the job The United States Marines.”

On order, 42 Marines lower six caskets draped by American Flags.

Time stands still as…
They depart the plane in rigid silence…
Our Salute still rendered.
