SCAM ALERT!

🚨 Driveway Scam Under Investigation 🚨

The Kankakee County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance as investigators continue to look into a residential theft that occurred last week on Old Orchard Lane in Aroma Park. A crew claiming to be performing driveway sealcoating in the area approached a homeowner and offered to complete work on the property on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. After an agreement was reached and the work was completed, one member of the crew reportedly distracted the homeowner by asking him to look at another area of the property while the remaining workers were left unattended.

After the crew departed, the homeowner discovered that a large amount of cash had been stolen from inside the residence. Investigators believe the theft occurred while the homeowner was being intentionally distracted. The suspects were described as a small crew traveling in a white or silver crew cab pickup truck equipped with a large sealcoating tank and pump in the bed of the truck.

✨ Sparklers may look cute, but they’re basically tiny lava sticks. They burn up to 2,000°F — hot enough to melt metal — so keep them away from little ones.

💧 Water = your holiday sidekick. A bucket or hose nearby can save the day if a spark gets too bold.

Dear Aqua Customer:

This is an important notice from Aqua sent 06-25-2026 to customers in Kankakee, Bradley, Limestone and Aroma Park, Illinois.

Aqua will be flushing the distribution system in your area beginning 06-25-2026 and ending 08-21-2026, from approximately 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Flushing fire hydrants washes away naturally occurring minerals that might have deposited on the insides of pipes over time and ensures proper operation of the fire hydrants. The natural minerals are not unsafe, but they can cause water to be discolored.

During the flushing program, customers may experience decreased water pressure or temporary water discoloration as it cleans out the pipes. Please be mindful of the possible water discoloration when doing laundry.

After we flush the system, we recommend that you consider removing and cleaning the aerators on your faucets. We also suggest that you flush your water line by running the outside spigot for a few minutes to help purge any sediment before entering your household plumbing. If you have not done so recently, we recommend you flush your water heater in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Limestone Township Fire Protection District Responds to Building Fire

Limestone Township, IL — April 17, 2026

At 7:32 p.m. on April 17, 2026, the Limestone Township Fire Protection District and Automatic Aid Companies responded to a reported building fire at 4345 W 1500 North Rd, Kankakee.

Upon arrival at 7:38 pm, crews encountered a 30-by-50-foot storage shed with smoke showing. Firefighters conducted an investigation and located a skid steer actively burning inside the structure. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression operations, successfully containing the fire to the skid steer and a small portion of the building. Crews remained on scene for approx. 1 hour.

Estimated damage from the incident is approximately $40,000. No injuries were reported.

The Limestone Township Fire Protection District was assisted on scene by Automatic-Aid Companies including Kankakee Fire Department, Bradley Fire Department, Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, Salina Fire Protection District, Herscher Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire Protection District, and Riverside Ambulance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
