The Martin House The Martin House is a two-flat built by Ed and Anna Martin in Kankakee's Riverview Historic District in 1924. Anna ran it as boarding house after Ed died.

The National Register of Historic Places includes a listing of buildings in the district which contribute to the character of the district. The Martin House is included because it was present during the period of significance, hasn't had any major exterior alterations, and retains it's historic integrity. The Martin Ho

use is a brick building with a two story open porch and a wrap-around pent roof to divide the two levels and achieve a horizontal line, which characterizes the Prairie style. This is likely inspired by the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Additional influences can be seen inside the building. The National Register of Historic Places nomination form lists the Martin House as being constructed in 1929 by Brink & Christianson, but there is reason to believe it was built five years earlier in 1924.http://gis.hpa.state.il.us/pdfs/201463.pdf
