The city of Kankakee is contained within Kankakee County and is located 60 miles south of Chicago off Interstate 57. Kankakee School District, with an enrollment of approximately 5,500 students, prekindergarten through twelfth grade, serves all of the City of Kankakee, the Village of Aroma Park, and rural areas east and south of the city, for a total of 48 square miles. Local residents continue to

volunteer countless hours of their time and contribute significant sums of money to support such social service agencies as Catholic Charities, Hospice, and the Community Resource Center. Such cultural institutions as the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Valley Theatre, and the Kankakee County Historical Society ensure the community remains a vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family. Kankakee School District offers many unique opportunities for students to learn. The district initiated a magnet program in 1979 which features either a subject- matter focus or a specific instructional style. Five magnet programs are offered and include computer education, exposure to the arts, mathematics education, Montessori-based education, and science and technology. The Kankakee High School offers a Business Partnership Academy developed in cooperation with the Private Industry Council focusing on workforce preparation in the field of business. In 2000, a Health Partnership Academy was started with Riverside Medical Center and Provena St. Mary’s Hospital preparing students for a career in health occupation fields. (Performance Optimizing Program) program offers an accelerated/gifted program for gifted learners.

Returning Kankakee School District 111 Families: Registration for the 2026–2027 school year is now open for returning students.

Please complete your registration online and submit any required health forms and records. Families may complete registration even if health records are not currently up to date; however, students must be up to date on physicals and immunizations in order to start school.

During the summer, in-person registration will be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 AM–1:00 PM at the Community Center-Coaches Office located behind Kankakee High School. Families can submit any needed documents, visit for assistance with registration or to ask any questions.

Last Friday, Kankakee School District 111 proudly hosted our 2nd Annual Hope Through the Years Gala—a special celebration dedicated to the incredible staff members who make a difference in the lives of our students every day.

Together, we reflected on a memorable school year, honored our retirees for their years of dedication and service, recognized employees reaching important service milestones, and celebrated the outstanding achievements of staff members through a variety of awards.

Thank you to every member of the KSD 111 family for your commitment, passion, and belief in our students. Your work continues to inspire hope, create opportunities, and shape the future of our community.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our event sponsors for helping make this celebration possible: Gotion Illinois, Midland States Bank, Riverside Healthcare, Jackie Haas, and Kankakee Community College. Your partnership and support of our staff and students are greatly appreciated.

El viernes pasado, el Distrito Escolar 111 de Kankakee celebró con orgullo nuestra 2.ª Gala Anual Hope Through the Years, una celebración especial dedicada al increíble personal que marca una diferencia en la vida de nuestros estudiantes todos los días.

Juntos, reflexionamos sobre un año escolar memorable, honramos a nuestros jubilados por sus años de dedicación y servicio, reconocimos a los empleados que alcanzaron importantes hitos de servicio y celebramos los logros sobresalientes de los miembros del personal a través de diversos premios.

Earlier this month, Band and Choir students from King, Kennedy, LCC, and KJHS traveled to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL to participate in the Music in the Parks Competition.

After their outstanding performances, students were able to enjoy a well-deserved day of fun at the park!

This incredible experience included 120 students and 50 parent, guardian, and staff chaperones who helped make the trip possible.

We are proud to share the results of their performances:
• KJHS Choir – 2nd Place
• KHS Choir – 1st Place and Best Overall
• KJHS Band – 2nd Place

Congratulations to all students and directors for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in music!

A principios de este mes, los estudiantes de Banda y Coro de King, Kennedy, LCC y KJHS viajaron a Six Flags Great America en Gurnee, IL para participar en la competencia Music in the Parks.

Después de sus excelentes presentaciones, los estudiantes disfrutaron de un merecido día de diversión en el parque.

A big one-day Registration Event for the 2026–2027 school year is happening Tuesday, June 16 at the Community Center behind Kankakee High School, located at 1200 W. Jeffery Street in Kankakee.

Families can stop by from 8:00 AM–1:00 PM or 4:00 PM–7:00 PM.

This event is for new-to-the-district students, families needing to submit documents, or anyone with questions about registration. Staff will be available to help ensure everything is in place for a smooth start to the school year.

Please remember to bring required registration documents, including:
-- Proof of residency (lease or mortgage documents)
-- Two additional proofs of residency (utility bill, credit card statement, etc.)
-- Parent/guardian photo ID
-- Student birth certificate(s)

Health requirements for certain grade levels will also be reviewed, including updated immunization records and other necessary health documentation as required by Illinois school guidelines.

We look forward to welcoming families and supporting you in getting ready for a strong and successful 2026–2027 school year!

Un gran evento de inscripción de un solo día para el año escolar 2026–2027 se llevará a cabo el martes 16 de junio en el Centro Comunitario detrás de Kankakee High School, ubicado en 1200 W. Jeffery Street en Kankakee.

Las familias pueden asistir de 8:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m. o de 4:00 p.m. a 7:00 p.m.

Este evento es para estudiantes nuevos en el distrito, familias que necesitan entregar documentos o cualquier persona con preguntas sobre el proceso de inscripción. El personal estará disponible para ayudar a asegurar que todo esté listo para un inicio de año escolar sin contratiempos.

School is not out for summer just yet—and our 1st grade students at Steuben Elementary School are still going strong!

In Ms. Espinosa’s class, students have been working hard sharpening their math skills by solving two-digit addition problems. Their focus, effort, and determination are showing every day as they continue learning right up to the finish line.

It’s important that we end the school year strong so students can head into summer confident, prepared, and proud of all they’ve accomplished. Keep up the great work, students & staff!

¡Las clases aún no han terminado y nuestros estudiantes de 1.º grado en la Escuela Elemental Steuben siguen trabajando con gran dedicación!

En la clase de la Sra. Espinosa, los estudiantes han estado esforzándose para fortalecer sus habilidades matemáticas resolviendo problemas de suma de dos dígitos. Su enfoque, esfuerzo y determinación se reflejan cada día mientras continúan aprendiendo hasta la recta final.
