Looking for a safe, fun, and engaging summer program for your child? The Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office Community Division is offering a FREE summer opportunity for students in grades K–12!

💜 Some people living with dementia just need to know they're not alone.

That's the heart behind our Mistaken Orders™ program.

Dementia doesn't take away someone's need to laugh, to connect, to feel seen. But too often, isolation does the rest of the damage. Research now shows that loneliness increases the risk of developing dementia by 30% and accelerates Alzheimer's by 39%. The silence around this disease is making it worse.

At Our Aging Services, we believe every person living with dementia deserves a community that meets them exactly where they are, with warmth, with humor, and without judgment.

Mistaken Orders™ was born from that belief. We're educating our community about the dementia public health crisis, the growing gap in caregivers, and what happens when we stop showing up for one another. Because showing up, laughing together, sharing a meal, simply being present — isn't just kindness. It's medicine.

Mistaken Orders™ works because of partners who believe in dignity, purpose, and connection — and yesterday proved that again.
Thank you to Riverside Senior Life Communities–Bourbonnais Grove, with special appreciation for Yolanda, Deborah, Ashley, and Megan, and to MCA Senior Adult Day Center for bringing extra Guest Servers to support the experience.

It takes a village to change the way our community sees dementia. Yesterday, that village wrapped around our Guest Servers and made them feel truly valued.

💙 Huge thank you to Riverside Senior Life Communities – Bourbonnais Grove, MCA Senior Adult Day Center , and our Dementia Friendly Kankakee County trained Server Buddies for coming together to make today’s Café of Mistaken Orders™ experience such a meaningful success.

Teamwork truly makes the dreamwork — and today proved, once again, that it takes a village to build a more dementia‑friendly community.

🚨 Did you know?

A UTI (urinary tract infection) can *mimic the signs and symptoms of dementia, especially in older adults.

Confusion, agitation, sudden memory changes, increased falls, or “not acting like themselves” can all be caused by an infection, not a change in their dementia.

If you notice a sudden shift in your loved one’s behavior, don’t wait it out.
