Statement from Mayor Bill Dusch:

We are a close-knit community with a proud history. The Concord Christmas Parade is and always has been one of our most beloved traditions.

We are a resilient community and will not let the senseless actions of a few individuals steal another tradition from us. Some families may choose to stay home and we understand and respect their decision. We also know that many find comfort, harmony, and healing in community and our parade has provided that for our City for nearly a century.

For this reason, we are continuing with the 97th Concord Christmas Parade as planned today at 2:30 p.m. The Santa Scramble 5K is also continuing as scheduled.

We remain committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience for everyone who attends. Additional security measures will be in place throughout the event.

Cabarrus GOP attacking school children for exercising free speech and standing with our local immigrant communities. Sounds about right!

Students left class Thursday in response to “Charlotte’s Web,” the weeklong federal enforcement effort that has disrupted families and ignited political tension at home.

America is a nation built and strengthened by immigrants. It’s a disgrace to see ICE and Border Patrol deployed to intimidate and brutalize Charlotte’s immigrant communities.

HISTORY MADE IN CABARRUS COUNTY

What a night! The 2025 municipal elections brought major wins and historic firsts for Democrats across Cabarrus County.

Concord City Council: Alvarys Santana and Betty Stocks
Harrisburg Mayor Pro Tem: Erin Banks
Kannapolis City Council: Jeanne Dixon
Midland Town Council: Isaac Davis

These victories are more than election results, they’re proof that when communities unite around equity, integrity, and progress, change happens.
• Erin Banks became the highest vote-getter in the Harrisburg Town Council race.
• Isaac Davis made history as the first Black member elected to the Midland Town Council.
• Alvarys Santana is now the first Afro-Latina and youngest elected official (33) in Cabarrus County history.
• Betty Stocks and Jeanne Dixon were both re-elected as top vote-getters, continuing their leadership for Concord and Kannapolis.

More than 22,000 people voted in this year’s municipal elections, a turnout that far surpassed the previous cycle and signaled renewed energy for progress and participation across Cabarrus County.

Let last night’s historic turnout reaffirm that the Republican Party is on notice-in Cabarrus County and across the nation. Working people deserve better.

This is what representation looks like.
This is what progress feels like.
This is what community power can do.

Friends, I’m excited and proud to share some big news: I am running for Kannapolis City Council in 2025!

This election will look a little different than usual, though. I’ll be on a separate section of the ballot, running for an unexpired 2-year seat. Importantly, I’m not running against any current council member.

After my campaign in 2023, I took time to reflect on what I learned from that race. Although I didn't win, I was proud of the progress we made and the support we built throughout Kannapolis. Since then, I have continued serving on boards and advocating for the city we all love. Last year, I was honored to be chosen as Vice Chair of the Kannapolis Board of Adjustments, where I sit for evidentiary hearings around certain zoning cases and ensure that these cases follow the standards set in our zoning ordinances. I’ve also remained active attending community events and listening to what’s most important for fellow residents.

Kannapolis is a great city with a rich history, but we still have work to do. We have a tremendous opportunity to honor that history, while also embracing smart growth and fresh ideas, so that we create a city that is a vibrant, inviting place to live and visit.

My reasons for running remain the same: to better Kannapolis.

My focus right now:

-Affordable housing opportunities, so people from all walks of life have the chance to live here.

-Smart and strategic development around the city, especially in areas that have been looked over for decades. This means improvements as small as sidewalks to larger-scale investment.

-Thriving local businesses, supporting small business owners who are already here AND encouraging larger employers to pay fair wages, provide stable employment, and community investment.

-Mental health advocacy, and I will continue to push for better access and more resources for all of our residents.

When we get down to it, regardless of the reasons, my calling is to serve. I was born and raised around Kannapolis, and I want to represent her with dedication and transparency. I want to be accessible, engaged and a true voice of our community.

I hope you’ll stand with me, because together we CAN win this! Remember, vote Holden Sides, “he’s paving the way” (literally).
