Congratulations to Lisa Rodriguez, News Director at KCUR, for being named Editor of the Year by the Public Media Journalists Association - PMJA!

Info about the week after Super Bowl LVII:

Kansas City Public Schools will open on Monday, February 13, following the Super Bowl, win or lose.

Should the Chiefs win, (as if there’s any doubt) the “Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade,” hosted by the Kansas City Sports Commission, will occur on Wednesday, February 15. Given that a million or more people will attend this event, and the widespread support for the Chiefs within KCPS, KCPS will be closed to allow all students and staff to participate in the parade and festivities; however, schools will be open if the parade must be canceled.

Students will not be in school February 17th or February 20th (Parent Teacher Conferences & President's Day).

Brian Goines, pictured here with mentee DeKeiveon, thinks it's important to give back to the community where he grew up. His favorite part of mentoring is "speaking to young men to become an ally and a resource."

As a mentor, Jasmine Brooks' job is to be the cheerleader who keeps her mentee accountable to her goals. They recently celebrated Maudea making the Northeast High School varsity basketball team — as a freshman!

"I was really proud of her for working hard and facing her fears of trying out for the basketball team," Jasmine said. "In order to celebrate her accomplishments, I brought her a cupcake." 🏀 🧁

Elle Moxley's mentee, Tes, helped her rescue a dog back in September! Tes found Lilly in the street while walking to Northeast Middle School one morning and asked Elle to help. Lilly loves her new home — and trips to visit Tes and her classmates!
