Brothers and sisters:

As Business Manager you must have a vision and a plan for the future of our union. I want to expand our organizing efforts to continue to acquire new contractors at an unprecedented pace. Our jurisdiction is full of unorganized stationary potential partners, and we want to concentrate our efforts on making these companies signatory with Local 101, employing IUOE Local 101 members.

I intend to keep offering more training classes to our membership to help improve their skills across the wide variety of jobs that we represent. Our goal is to expand our Pathway Program to different school districts across Local 101’s territory and create a workforce that is educated the union way and ready for the apprenticeship after high school graduation. We are working to formulate a mechanics training curriculum and design a stationary training facility to improve our ability to organize stationary contractors.

We will make every effort to make IUOE Local 101 into a household name. We continue to go to job fairs, county fairs, advertise and attend events like Dozer Days to showcase to the public what we do and what benefits we offer. We will continue to do the extra work it takes to let the average person recognize that when they see a piece of heavy equipment, they know that that’s the Operating Engineers local 101.

I will continue to build solid relationships with other trades and associations. These relationships are as strong as they have ever been and Local 101 is one of the most respected unions in our area. By continuing these relationships, we will protect our work from outsiders, and everyone knows we will fight for what is ours.

By revamping the way we look at politics we created a Political Action Committee that works and has opened many doors for us. These doors provide us with the ability to create legislation that will solidify our work and create other avenues to put added protection to our union ideas. My goal is to get even more support from lawmakers no matter what their party affiliation. If they support putting our members to work, then we will work with them to improve the lives of our members.

Basically, I don’t want to create just a run of the mill union. I want to create a MONSTER! I encourage you to vote for the Experience That Counts ticket and help this administration continue our forward movement on our journey. We do not want to go back to the old status quo.

We are proud to announce that we have expanded our Stationary membership to over 1000 members. Successful NLRB elections led by the Organizer and Stationary Agents bring new members and new signatory contractors to our ranks.

Did you know that effective April 1st, 2024 the board of Trustees expanded preventive care services, including vaccines for ages 7 - 34 that were previously not covered.

Aaron Brown has created an option for members to receive their vacation funds as a monthly deposit into members accounts at the only all union credit union in Kansas City. This option eliminates the hassle of an unreliable mail system and provides members with quick and easy access to their money when they want it.
