New Rigs. Same Mission.

The Kansas City Kansas Fire Department is proud to invite the community to join us for a fire apparatus dedication ceremony as we officially welcome two new Spartan Pumpers into service.

These new pumpers are more than shiny red trucks. They are an investment in the safety of our residents, our firefighters, and the future of emergency response in Kansas City, Kansas.

One pumper will serve out of Rosedale and one out of Strawberry Hill, but like every KCKFD apparatus, they are ready to respond wherever they are needed across our community.

During the ceremony, attendees will be able to see the new pumpers up close, learn about their capabilities, and take part in a traditional fire service dedication honoring where we have been, where we are going, and the people we serve every day.

Apparatus Dedication Ceremony
Date: Monday, June 15, 2026
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Fire Headquarters

Come out, take a look, and help us welcome these new rigs into the KCKFD family.

Kansas City metro, we are currently under a Tornado Watch until 9 PM.

We are also in a Level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk. What does Level 3 mean? Great question. Weather people have levels now, apparently.

For the rest of us, it means strong to severe storms are possible across the metro this evening, with damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and yes… possibly a few NADERS.

A watch means conditions are favorable, not that a tornado is happening right now. But this is the time to pay attention. This is not the time to stand on the porch with Kyle while he says, “Nah, it’s gonna miss us.”

Kyle also thinks gas station sushi is “basically the same thing,” so we should not be taking life-safety advice from Kyle.

Please have more than one way to receive warnings, secure loose outdoor items, and know where you would go if a warning is issued.

And remember: outdoor sirens are for people outdoors. Do not rely on them as your only warning method inside your home.

Stay weather aware, Kansas City.

End of Probation Shield Ceremony

Join us live as we recognize the successful completion of probation for one of our newest KCKFD firefighters.

After a year of training, service, and completing their probationary task book, they will exchange their probation shield for their firefighter shield.

A proud milestone in their fire service career.

The wait is over. The FDC Coffee link is officially LIVE.

If you have been waiting to grab yours, today is the day. This fundraiser directly supports the KCKFD L64 Peer Support Team and the work they do to take care of our firefighters and their families.

Through the link, you can purchase FDC Coffee, grab a T-shirt, or both if your closet and caffeine habit are equally committed to the cause.

Order here:
https://www.firedeptcoffee.com/pages/coffee-subscription

We don’t ask people to share our posts very often, but this is one we would really appreciate you helping us spread around. Every share helps get more eyes on this fundraiser and helps support a program that means a lot to our department.

So grab some coffee, grab a shirt, share the post, and help us support Peer Support.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and helped spread the word. Now go get some coffee before Jessica buys it all and claims she “only ordered one bag.”

Attention Wyandotte County:

The long national nightmare is OVER!!!

K-32 / Turner Diagonal Freeway / Kaw Drive bridge is finally open and waiting for traffic.

Please take a moment to appreciate this historic occasion.

Jessica is already asking where all the construction went and whether she should still take the 14-mile detour just to be safe.

Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember.

Today, we honor the men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country and never made it home.

We also pause to remember our brothers and sisters in public safety — police officers, firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers, and all first responders — who died in the line of duty while serving their communities.

Their sacrifice is not forgotten. Their service still matters. And their families remain in our hearts.

From all of us at the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department, we remember, we honor, and we are grateful.

We are very thankful that there were no civilian or first responder injuries related to this overnight fire in the 1400 block of N. 38th Street. The Red Cross responded on scene to assist families who had been living in the approximately 19 units that were destroyed. While the investigation into the fire is ongoing, a person of interest is in custody.
