Garfield Elementary

Garfield Elementary Garfield Elementary is a neighborhood school in the Kansas City Public Schools. Located at 436 Prospect, Garfield has 610 students in Pre-K through 6th grade.

Garfield Elementary was built in 1962 after a school with the same name at 421 Wabash street was torn down the year before. The old school was a tall, brick building with a bell tower that had been in northern Kansas City since the late 1800s. Today, Garfield Elementary is a neighborhood school that serves students in the Northeast community. It serves a very diverse community with students from m

ore than 12 countries representing a variety of cultures. Over 300 students receive specialized assistance through the English Language Learners program. Garfield focuses on the advantages of positive behavior through the Missouri Positive Behavior Intervention Support initiative. We encourage students to focus on what they do right as a means to success. Our PBIS team meets monthly to discuss ways that we can provide a safe, successful environment for our students. With a staff of 58 teachers, administrative support, food service workers, and custodial personnel we look forward to serving your children within our community where Garfield Eagles SOAR!

The Bond vote is April 8. Garfield Elementary itself would receive $7.4 million.

How would the Bond impact Garfield?

Every KCPS school will receive funds to address its most critical facility needs addressing:

*Deferred Maintenance: life safety, HVAC, electrical, roofs, windows, bathroom, plumbing

*Improved Learning Environment: collaboration spaces, STEAM labs, instrumental music spaces, gym and athletic facilities, outdoor classrooms/outdoor play areas, secure entry points.

For Garfield, this would mean:

*the school receives $7.4 million.
*major renovations to classrooms, the playground area, HVAC systems, windows, restrooms, and plumbing.

So amazing to have one of our very own Eagles come back and show his accomplishments! Congratulations to DeJohn Bailey…he started as a Garfield Eagle in Kindergarten and continued all through 6th grade! He still has eagle pride! 🥰
