Central High School

Central High School Central High is a neighborhood high school in the Kansas City Public Schools. The school was moved in 1915 to Linwood and Indiana.

The first Central High opened in 1867 on the lower floor of the Starke Building at 11th and Locust. In the early 1990s, a new Central High was built, with a large fieldhouse, Olympic-size swimming pool and a Greek theater. The new school initially offered a magnet curriculum with two tracks: classical Greek studies or computers. Notable Central alumni include actor William Powell, baseball manager Casey Stengel and Olympic sprinter Muna Lee.
