This Pride Month, we reflect on what it means to create safety, belonging, and support for every child, family, and team member who walks through our doors.

At the Child Protection Center, our work is rooted in listening and believing kids. That commitment recognizes the unique challenges LGBTQ+ youth may face—including higher risks of rejection, violence, exploitation, and feeling unseen or unsafe.

Everyone deserves to be met with compassion. Every family deserves care that honors who they are. And every person on our CPC team deserves to feel valued, respected, and included.

Pride is not just a month. It is a reminder of the responsibility we carry every day to show up with empathy, dignity, and respect for all.

This month and every month, CPC stands with LGBTQ+ youth, families, staff, and our community.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting one of the evidence-based therapeutic approaches used at the Child Protection Center to support families we care for: Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP).

CPP is designed for infants and young children through age 5 who have experienced trauma, abuse, violence, grief, or other stressful events. This “baby therapy” helps strengthen the relationship between a child and their safe caregiver focused on building trust, emotional security, and healthy attachment during the earliest years of development. 💙

Through play, connection, and guided support, children and caregivers are able to process experiences together and begin healing as a family. As part of this work, CPP helps give voice to our very smallest children to speak the “unspeakables” while creating safe, supportive spaces for healing even before children have the words to fully express their experiences.

At CPC, we know that early intervention matters, and we are grateful for the compassionate work of our clinical team who help create safe spaces for children and families every day.

Today reminds us that protection is a calling. On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who answered the call and gave their lives so others could live safely.

Yesterday, our CEO Lisa Mizell spoke with Channel 41 News to encourage advocacy with state and local officials for continued funding through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).

VOCA funding is critical to the services provided at the Child Protection Center. These funds help ensure children and families impacted by abuse, violence, and trauma have access to forensic interviews, advocacy, therapy, and support at no cost.

Every child deserves a safe place to tell their story and begin the healing process. Sustaining these services will require strong community and legislative support.

As we prepare for anticipated funding reductions in the coming months, we invite our community to stand with us. Your support helps ensure children and families continue to receive the care they need when they need it most.

Please consider making a gift today: https://cpckc.org/donate/

Watch the interview to learn more about how VOCA funding impacts children and families in our community.
