We are getting back into our routine of having culture nights again and what better way to welcome in the “Berr” season with a community potluck!?

Bring whatever food pleases you, because I’m sure we will love it!
We will also be offering surveys and issuing $25 gift cards for your time in taking the survey, so bring a friend!

Join us next Tuesday and every 2nd Tuesday of each month for our community get together where we learn cultural arts, traditional teachings and more!

Looking back on the 47th Annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival with gratitude.

Thank you to Agalisiga “C**j” Mackey agalisiga “chuj” mackey ☀️ for sharing his music, culture, and Cherokee language with our community. We were happy to have you join us.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make the Kansas City Indian Center booth a success. We could not have done it without you.

We also thank our KCIC staff for their hard work and dedication. Your efforts helped make the festival a success.

Don't miss out on performances by Agalisiga "C**j" Mackey" at the Ethnic Enrichment Festival tonight at 7pm or Sunday at 1:30pm.

Agalisiga “C**j” Mackey is a Cherokee guitarist/musician and singer/songwriter from the Cherokee Nation in Northeast Oklahoma. C**j spent the early years of his life growing up on a creek bank in the small traditional Cherokee community of Kenwood, where his mother’s family settled after the forced removal of Cherokees from what is now North Carolina. C**j then moved to Tahlequah, the Cherokee Nation capital, to become a language learner at the Cherokee Immersion Charter School. C**j grew up participating in traditional ceremonies, ceremonial songs being the foundation of his voice which he carries with him as he creates more modern music. C**j writes and sings original country-folk music in the Cherokee language. He is inspired by classic country and blues sounds and themes. Additionally, he has performed at various events including the Cherokee National Holiday and the grand opening of the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, OK. His goal is to perpetuate the Cherokee language and culture. In addition to his artistic endeavors, C**j graduated from the Cherokee Language Master Apprenticeship program and now works in the Cherokee language department. He is a father of two sons who he teaches both Cherokee and music to.

Today is the 6 year anniversary of KC football's ban on headdresses and facepaint. Kansas City and Atlanta have the opportunity to do the right thing. We stand in solidarity with our relatives in Atlanta and The Bravest ATL

"I wish they would enforce the policy at the games. Six years later, we still see people wearing headdresses and face paint walking past us while we're outside the stadium protesting. The ban was Kansas City's way of admitting they know it's wrong, but announcing a policy and not enforcing it speaks volumes. Today, Thursday, August 20 – Load-In Day
Assist with loading trucks at KCIC and unloading materials at Swope Park. (Arrive at KCIC )

Friday–Sunday, August 21–23 – Festival Volunteers
Help is needed throughout the festival for a variety of volunteer shifts (Various shifts from 11am to 9pm).

Monday, August 24 – Unload Day
Assist with unloading trucks at KCIC in the morning. (Arrive at KCIC )

We are also excited to welcome Agalisiga “C**j” Mackey, a Cherokee musician and singer-songwriter from the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.

C**j performs original country-folk music in the Cherokee language, drawing inspiration from traditional Cherokee ceremonial songs, classic country, and blues. His music celebrates and helps preserve Cherokee language and culture.

Performance Times:
Saturday, August 22 – Approximately 7:30 PM
Sunday, August 23 – Approximately 1:30 PM
