Pitcher Elementary

Pitcher Elementary Pitcher Elementary is a neighborhood school located on the east side of Kansas City that educates Pre K- 6th grade. Go Eagles! 🦅

Pitcher Elementary School is the most eastern school in the Kansas City Public Schools. The building was built in 1989 with desegregation funds. It was built to accommodate the Classical Greek Theme with an Olympic size pool, track, and field. The school is named for Thomas Pitcher, a landowner and one of Jackson County’s earliest sheriffs, who deeded a log-cabin school to the county superintenden

t of schools in 1860. In 2010 the staff and students from West Rock Creek Elementary merged with Pitcher. We have students enrolled from a vast variety of cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. It is the only site in the district that houses the Specific Language Impairment Classes formally know as Delayed Language.

At Pitcher Elementary, our Foster Grandparents are integral to our classroom communities. We are so grateful to Reconciliation Services and their partnership with AmeriCorps that allows for more support for our students.

Congratulations for completing another year of service: Grandma Sharon (7 years), Grandma Cheryl (1 year), and Grandma Mary (1 year).

Big things are happening at Pitcher!

Big things are happening at Pitcher!

Big things, including Tuesday's Educator Grant story, are happening at Pitcher Elementary!

This KCPS school may be smaller, but it’s packed with big opportunities for its 260 PK–6th grade students. With an impressive 11:1 student-teacher ratio, Pitcher gives students plenty of support, connection, and room to grow.

Shoutout to Lori Sparks, KCPS's 2026 Teacher of the Year, for lighting up Pitcher's early childhood classrooms with compassion and leadership!

Students dive into hands-on STEM learning through Project Lead The Way, plus real-world experiences like wildlife field trips.

🎉 And the biggest news? Pitcher is getting a major glow-up in 2026–2027 with building upgrades and brand-new playgrounds ahead of a fall 2027 reopening.

Tiny ratio. Giant heart. Future looking very bright.
