2025 Ad Hoc Cost of Living Adjustment

Dear Members,
At the September 11, 2025, Board meeting, the Retirement Board carefully reviewed the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for the upcoming year. After extensive discussion, the Board made the difficult decision not to elect a COLA at this time.

This decision was not made lightly. A variety of factors were considered, including economic conditions, the long-term outlook of the plan, and our fiduciary responsibility to all members. Ultimately, the Board’s top priority is to keep the Retirement System Actuarially sound, so it remains strong and sustainable for both current and future retirees.

We recognize the impact this decision may have, and we want to assure you that the Board remains committed to balancing the financial well-being of our retirees with the long-term health of the System.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jason Hoy at (816) 482-8157 or [email protected].

I’ve received 2 of these types of “urgent” text messages today! Do NOT fall for these scams. First, it’s from an email account. Second, I’m not even sure the department of revenue has my phone number. Third, I don't have any tickets. Please notice the urgency which is one way they get you to fall for their tricks. The Mo DMV will not text you. You’ll receive a letter in the mail if they need you.

Yesterday, the Social Security Administration announced that it is immediately beginning to pay retroactive benefits and will increase monthly benefit payments to public sector workers whose benefits have been affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).

Per yesterday's announcement, most impacted beneficiaries will receive their one-time retroactive payment by the end of March, which will be deposited into their bank account on record with Social Security.

Scam of the Week
Real Email, Fake Facebook
_______________________________________
In this week’s scam, cybercriminals are trying to steal your Facebook login information. They send you an email claiming your page violates copyright laws. This scam is particularly convincing because the email you receive appears to be from a legitimate sender. The email even contains Facebook logos, although if you look closely, you’ll notice they look slightly different from the real Facebook logo. The email urges you to log in to Facebook to appeal this decision immediately, or you will lose access to your account’s features.
You are directed to click a button in the email, which takes you to what appears to be a Facebook support page. The support page will prompt you to provide your login information to have your account “reviewed.” But your page never really violated copyright laws. The Facebook support page is actually fake and controlled by cybercriminals. If you enter your Facebook user credentials, the cybercriminals will steal them!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a Facebook phishing scam:
• Be suspicious of unusual emails, even if they appear to be from a legitimate email address. Facebook won't send you emails threatening immediate action.
• Log in to Facebook through its official website or mobile app to check your account’s status. Don’t click any links in an email claiming to be from Facebook.
• Always check logos and spelling in emails claiming to be from Facebook. In this particular scam, the emails contained fake Facebook logos, some with misspelled words.
