Merritt became aware of vase numbers of individuals who are in need of various life enhancing services offered throughout our great city, but are impeded from seeking these services at their source. Merritt decided to do something about getting these resources to those who needed them. After meeting with various community leaders, and discussing his concern, the Penny Mill Foundation was born in

2010. The group held their first Community Empowerment event on an August Sunday afternoon in August 2010 with over 300 automobiles entering the parking area with attendees. Attendances double at the next year’s event and on October 11, 2011, Penny Mill Foundation was incorporated as a State of Missouri Nonprofit Corporation. The foundation depends on the generosity of businesses and other entities within the community to provide funds to cover the cost of hosting the two yearly events, and to establish our perpetual Grade Watch Incentive Award Program (GWIP). The Grade Watch Incentive Program will utilize monetary and non-monetary awards such as Computers, Tablets and eReaders to motivate youth to focus on improving their grades and to stay in school.
