SCAM ALERT

Property deed scams are on the rise, and scammers can target your home's equity by filing fake paperwork. The Clay County Recorder of Deeds offers a free property fraud alert service called Deed Watch, which allows property owners to monitor activity recorded under selected names.

To set it up, register with a valid email address at deedwatch.com, select Clay County, and enter the verification code sent to your email. From there, you can add any variation of your name, a spouse’s name, or any name you wish to monitor.

When a document is recorded under one of your selected names, you will get an instant email alert so you can confirm the transaction right away. Please note that Deed Watch is an alert and monitoring service only. It does NOT prevent documents from being recorded, validate the legality of documents, or replace legal advice. The Postal Service places the safety of its employees as a top priority. If a carrier feels threatened by a dog, or if a dog is loose or unleashed, the owner may be asked to pick up mail at a Post Office until the carrier is assured the pet has been restrained. If a dog is roaming the neighborhood, the pet owner's neighbors also may be asked to pick up their mail at the area’s Post Office.

Thousands of postal employees were attacked by dogs last year, but that pales in comparison to the 4.5 million Americans attacked each year. The Postal Service continues its tradition of calling attention to this public health issue.
