It’s September, which means National Night Out Against Crime is right around the corner!

We love ending the summer with one last community event in the park, and National Night Out is the perfect way to do it. Join us for an evening of fun raffles, free food, games, and a chance to meet our partners, GVPD officers and staff who help make our community a great place to be.

In honor of back-to-school season, we wanted to showcase our School Resource Officers through all the seasons! From hosting summer camps and community events to attending local sporting events and greeting students on chilly winter mornings, our SROs are there for students every step of the way.

Our SROs are ready to be back in the schools and welcome students for another school year!

(UPDATE 5:50 P.M. 8/19): At approximately 4:30 p.m. on August 19, 2026, Grain Valley Police Department officers were dispatched to the Dollar General store south of Grain Valley following a report of a vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver’s foot slipped onto the accelerator, causing the vehicle to travel into the storefront. The vehicle was occupied by three people at the time of the crash.

One person inside the business sustained a minor scratch while moving out of the way as the vehicle entered the building. No employees were injured, and no serious injuries were reported.

The Dollar General location was undergoing construction at the time of the incident but remained open for business. The vehicle is being towed from the scene, and the store will remain closed until further notice while the damage is assessed and the area is determined to be safe.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. today (8/19), GVPD was dispatched to Dollar General south of town regarding a vehicle crash.

Officers are currently on scene. Please avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.

Tanna (her temporary shelter name) has been waiting for someone to come looking for her. 🐾

She was found running around Trail Side RV at the beginning of the month. Since then, no one has come forward to claim her, and now this sweet girl is in need of a foster or forever home.

We are less than a month away from National Night Out Against Crime !

Join us from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, for this annual community event. Families can enjoy free food and drinks, explore bomb squad equipment, watch a helicopter landing, and participate in a free raffle for home-safety prizes.

**Note: National Night Out will be held in the field behind the Community Center. This is a free event. For more information, call (816) 847-6250.
