The men of Red Door Refuge did their second neighborhood tire cleanup of 2023. We must be making a dent in the tire dumping, because we only collected 34 tires this time... The fewest we've ever collected since we started doing this in 2019! Big thank you to Terry and Michael and Jimmy for giving up your morning to help keep our neighborhood clean and beautiful!

The men of Red Door along with some guests took part in the Great KC Cleanup today for Earth Day. We didn't cover as much area as we wanted, but were able to collect 2 full 12-foot trailer loads of trash to the city's collection site this morning. A huge thank you to Tom, Terry, and Jimmie from Red Door, Terry's friend Loretta, Paul who will be moving into Red Door this week, One by One board members Liz and Mary Elizabeth, and special guest Vonzell and his kids, Jordan and Landon!

Today was our 4th - and last - tire cleanup of 2022. It has been heartening that we've found less and less tires each time we've gone out this year...we only collected 49 this time. Still too many, but what a huge difference from the 277 we collected back in March!! Big thanks to Gregg Sterling and Thomas Devine, our small but mighty crew that helped today.

Stuff is happening in the backyard at Red Door Refuge! We're in the process of building a ground level deck so the guys can cook out and grill. The recent rain ripened a bunch of stuff in the garden - including a ghost pepper! 😳🔥, so we donated some to the food pantry and gave some to a few neighbors. The backyard is the place to be!

We did a really cool thing at Red Door this evening! There's an old empty garage building up the street from us, and one of the guys was going by there earlier and saw a couple of tiny kittens there. So we went to look, and found 2 baby kittens, maybe 3 weeks old, that were just little sacks of bones! Obviously Mama Cat had hit the road and left them orphaned. So we caught them and brought them back to Red Door and took turns feeding them goats milk from a syringe. We were able to get in touch with Tees Meow, a local cat rescue organization, initially to ask about getting them fixed when they're old enough... But those awesome folks showed up tonight to take the kittens into their rescue! So we can rest easy, knowing they're in good hands. Look up Tees Meow and send them a donation so they can keep caring for all the fur babies in need!
