Programs and Services

Helping Youth Plan for Excellence (HYPE)
is a media leadership group that creates a positive setting for urban youth ages 10- 21. The project utilizes student involvement in media as the vehicle to establish ongoing youth development activities. Since 1999, HYPE members have produced quality television programming giving accurate, culturally sensitive HIV/AIDS and substance

abuse prevention information to their peers in an up-beat entertaining way. Students learn the basics of video work including camera operation, editing and audio as well as interviewing techniques. The show airs weekly on Time Warner Channel 4 on Saturdays at 11:00 am

National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. is designed to encourage the faith community to assist in educating the community on the risk factors associated with HIV/AIDS and to mobilize area African-American churches in reducing the spread of the disease. and is the convener and fiscal agent for the local observance, which is held the first full week in March annually. Taking it to the Pews (TIPS)
is a church based health promotion program that mobilizes and empowers churches to help in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS. TIPS partners disseminate pre-developed, culturally and religiously tailored materials from the HIV Prevention & Compassion Tool Kit to congregants and affiliates. CCON staff and volunteers provide technical assistance and resources including testing. The Calvary Community Wellness Center
provides structured fitness opportunities and information to youth and families living and working in urban Kansas City. The 10,000 square foot warehouse located at 3002 Holmes Street has been converted into a state of the art fitness center to serve youth and families in the target group. Health screenings, nutrition demonstrations and fitness classes are among the program offerings.

URGENT NOTICE

For the safety of our Patrons and Staff, the Calvary Community Wellness Center will close at 4pm today, April 17, due to severe weather conditions.

We plan to be open tomorrow (Saturday), April 18 for normal business hours from 8am-Noon.

Kingdom Word Ministries hosts their weekly club with the Kansas City Boys & Girls Choir under the direction of their Executive Director, Mia Ramsey.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

We are in Year 2 of launching our TOP (Teen Outreach Program) in Kansas City. TOP is a nationally recognized program of the Wyman Network designed for Middle/High School Students.

We are seeking Volunteers who are interested in being trained as TOP Facilitators to teach youth ourclasses for one hour on a weekly basis. Volunteers must participate in a 2.5 day Training and pass a background check.

Our TOP Programs are currently being hosted by the following Healthy Faith churches at these sites:

^Sunlight Baptist Church = Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City

^Bethel Family Worship Center = Ruskin High School

^Hickman Mills Community Empowerment Center = Alvin Brooks
Middle School

^Kingdom Word Ministries = Kansas City Boys & Girls Choir

^Jamison Temple = will start at Central High School this month

^Mt. Sinai Baptist Church = at Mt. Sinai

CENTER CLOSING NOTICES FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 2025:

To Our Wellness Center Patrons:

Please note the following dates that we will be closed:

^In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, the Calvary Community Wellness Center will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. We will reopen on Wednesday, November 12.

^On Thursday, November 13, the Wellness Center will close at 5:00pm to allow our Staff Members to attend our annual Holiday Harvest Fundraising event. We will reopen for normal business hours on Friday, November 14.

^In observance of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday season, the Wellness Center will be closed on November 26-29 (Wednesday thru Saturday) to allow our Staff and Patrons to enjoy their families. We will reopen on Monday, December 1 for normal business hours.

^Lastly, as we prepare for the winter season, please be reminded of our Inclement Weather Policy. Whenever the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) District closes due to inclement weather, the Wellness Center will also be closed. You can stay updated here on our page or the local news stations.
