Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death, especially among young
children. These tips can help save lives:
• Never swim alone—always use the buddy system
• Only use U.S. Coast Guard-approved flotation devices
• Supervise children closely near any body of water, no matter how shallow
• Do not dive into unknown or shallow water to avoid head injuries

Summer is grilling season, and National Grilling Month is a great time to brush up on your
safety practices. Whether you're hosting a barbecue or just enjoying a meal outdoors,
remember that safety at the grill protects you, your guests and your home.
• Set up your grill in a well-ventilated space away from structures, trees or flammable
objects
• Clean the grill grates and trays regularly to prevent grease fires
• Always keep a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand nearby
• Use long-handled tools to keep a safe distance from the flame
• Never leave a hot grill unattended and keep children and pets at a safe distance

July is UV Safety Month, a time to protect your skin and eyes from harmful ultraviolet
(UV) radiation. Whether you're working outdoors or enjoying the sunshine, taking precautions
is essential to reduce the risk of sunburn, skin cancer and long-term damage.
• Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and reapply every two hours or
after swimming or sweating
• Wear protective clothing, including long sleeves and wide-brimmed hats
• Use sunglasses with 100% UV protection to shield your eyes
• Stay in the shade during peak UV hours, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Avoid indoor tanning, which also exposes your skin to harmful UV rays

Pets are family, and they rely on us for protection. Make sure your emergency plans
include your furry companions. Consider the following:
• Place pet alert stickers on windows to notify rescuers of pets inside
• Secure pets near exits when you’re away to ease evacuation
• Practice fire drills, including pet evacuation
• Keep leashes and carriers easily accessible
