A Turning Point KC Cold Weather Shelter

Location is at a Kansas City church.

From December 1 through March 1, when temperatures drop below 10 degrees, A Turning Point KC will activate a warm sleeping space to safely overnight homeless community members of the Northland.

COLD WEATHER SHELTER WILL BE ACTIVATED FOR THE NIGHT OF MONDAY, MARCH 16th.

Important:

PLEASE do not arrive at A Turning Point for shelter. We do not pick up from A Turning Point. The shelter Is NOT at A Turning Point.

PLEASE do not arrive at Gashland UMC prior to 6:00pm.

We will run shuttle on activated nights from 6p-7:30 from these two bus stops:

🚐201 Bus Line at North Oak and Vivion - Please wait at the bench by the retention pond next to Pizza Ranch, facing Lowes.
🚐238 Bus Line at Antioch and Vivion - Please wait in the covered bus stops next to Walgreens just south of the Walmart Parking Lot (the Park and Ride stop)
Or walk in to the shelter after 6 pm.

We are so GRATEFUL for our volunteers. Cold weather sheltering wouldn’t happen without you.

You show up night after night, morning after morning. You bring amazing food (unlimited for guests), drive the shuttle, help check people in, clean up in the morning, and do whatever needs doing-sometimes before we even know it’s needed.

One night, someone noticed earplugs might help guests sleep better and ran out to get them. One shuttle driver made gift bags to hand to every person as they climbed aboard the shuttle, welcoming them. We often find hand written encouraging notes in the breakfast bags. Others dropped off warm clothes and gloves. Some of you come back season after season, supporting us in whatever we need in the evening and morning.

Every single thing you do matters. Every bit of your time, energy, and care makes a difference. We see it, our guests see it, and our hearts are full because of you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. We could not do this without you. ❤️ (included pics of just a few of our wonderful volunteers!)
